and they said, you don't have an appt!

$60 please, to schedule one. But we probably can't get you in tonight...

Someone else says, probably not tomorrow morning either. Dispatch says, "ya, they always give us a hard time about night deliveries there. Tell them THEIR customer set the 23:00 appt and will be billed detention charges until you get unloaded."

I tell them that... and we are willing to pay any fees to get a dock now.

I park and hop in the sleeper, they will knock when a door is open. Next thing I know it is 7am.

I go back in and a different lady tells me, "your appt was for 23:00 yesterday."

I tell her, "I was here at 22:00 yesterday and they told me I did not have an appt."

She goes to another room and conferences with the warehouse folks. A few minutes later I am assigned a door.

Apparently I have two separate pages of bills and the night guy only tried one of the numbers to look for the appt.

That was just one of my days last week!#(*(&^%*&$^&$%$#

Bummer. Sometimes we just have days like these and it's tough to make the most of them, but thankfully every day isn't like this!

Sorry for the hassle. Been there, done that!

    Wargames Thanks this.

Just tell 'em you can schedule your trailer to a door right now, however there's a $100 scheduling fee, payable in advance.

It happens. Then you will have weeks when you can't hardly take your safety breaks. It's just the way it goes.

I think things will smooth out for you a bit Mike, as you go along. I know you are catching a lot of stuff that is new to your right now, but you seem to be handling it OK.

    Don (and others)..
don't you see some of this as a way for the company to see what he is made of and how he can handle himself and things on the road..??

i sure as hell do. we as drivers, when we first started out, were "tested" time and time again. as WE ALL KNOW, life on the road is tough. if a driver, male or female can handle all these problems with nary a complaint, as you alluded to Don, the freight starts coming and one cannot even catch his breath sometimes...right..???

Perhaps, and with a lot of companies. Or it could be that once you get a few whiskers on you, you just sort of take it as it comes.

What I used to just hate was dispatch trying to tell me, "well there just isn't any freight moving out of (wherever it happened to be) right now, when everyone else seemed to be getting loads out. IMHO this was because I was from another terminal and my dispatcher was not "buddy-buddy" with the weekend dispatch where I happened to be.

But I really do believe that getting enough experience to plan your loads and get preplans set up, makes a big difference.

Yep, happened to me once too. After talking about it later on at a TS, an older driver told me to look for a time clock when checking in. He said some places the help uses the same entrance door as the drivers. When one is there, I punch the time onto the BOL. There's no way to dispute that kind of proof.
