Hello!
First I would like to thank Lady K and Klingon for their adventure! Your story resonates with our in many degrees.
Here's our back story: Throughout the years we have often discussed team driving as a way to see the land (even if it's thru a windshield) and eventually decide where we want to spend our later years. We already know it has to be warm, near an ocean and plenty of golf for Mr V.
I had practically grown up around trucks. My grandparents had a trucking business and I had spent quite a few summers in the floor board of my Grandma's straight truck. Not to mention the countless days watching Grand dad shoo the cattle from the back of his trailer!
Going this direction never really occurred to us as means of reaching our goals until Mr V had enough of seeing the inside of the same 4 walls, doing the same thing over and over for umteen years.
As for me, I've been an RN for many years now and have been there and done that. I have enjoyed the last few years as a travel nurse (don't believe everything you read, we don't get paid much more than working from home) and this was great until recently. Before when Mr V had a steady eddy job we could sneak in a 4 day weekend and fly him to where I was working. Now that is simply not the case.
Kids are grown...both happy in their lives doing their thing. No grandkids (yet) so now's the time to set sail on our new adventure.
By the time I finish my CDL Mr V will almost have a years experience. His company isn't too excited to have us team until he has another winter under his belt and more experience.
Here's my list of questions:
Who do you recommend for husband/wife team trucking (we have no desire to lease or own)...we want to drive coast to coast
I plan on getting my cdl later this summer--any suggestions?
I've spent countless hours this past week googling everything I can think of in terms of team trucking. I don't find those replicated job listing websites very helpful.
I guess right now....I'm trying to narrow my search down to the best companies that allow husband/wife team with the best pay and benefits.
Already letting go of the contents of 27yrs of accumulation in anticipation of living in a cab for the next 5-10 years. So liberating!
Thanks for reading this and any words of encouragement are very helpful!

Im going with Swift because besides all the negative reviews they are the only company I have found that "gets" the spouse training aspect of trucking. After 30 days of employment her school will be free to us.I'm actually having a garage sale this weekend and craigslisting every thing that has a value over $100.

Might have to take another look at Swift. I figure no matter who we go with, it will be a year to get my feet wet then we can be more marketable as a couple.
Yep...cleaning, clearing, garage sale, pretty much every thing goes...Our plan is to start anew when we get off the truck!
Good Luck, keep me posted on your new adventure -
I have an interview with the community college next week to see if that's the way I want to go to get my CDL.
We are getting more excited about me jumping into the driver seat! -
It sounds to me like you have put a lot of thought into this. I think you'll do fine. Check into expedited freight. There's some infomation on this forum on this type of operation. So much of the freight and so many operations are not well suited for teams nowdays. If I could get my wife interested, I'd look at a reefer operation. Just some thoughts.
Good luck and welcome to a great forum. My gut tells me Swift isn't a great choice. However, I think they offer one of the best husband/wife opportunities in the industry. Some seem quite happy there. I think your husband can train you. -
I've decided on the community college school rather than an independent or even a company sponsored school.
The classes are a bit longer but way more driving time esp backing. Cost less than independent.
But...had some set backs so I won't be starting until later this year. Should be interesting learning in the snow!BigJohn54 Thanks this.
