    You know he lied on his application? How do you know this? A lot of times it is a matter that they can't verify something because a former employer went out of business, etc. They should check those things out BEFORE they ask someone to uproot their life and come to orientation. Sure it costs money. That's their problem. You better believe that if a few driver's successfully sued that they would be happy to spend the money. The companies selfishly do this because they get way with it.

    There are good companies that do it right. Landstar comes to mind. You don't got to orientation until you are thoroughly checked out, pass a DOT physical and a drug screen. That's the way it should be done.

    Let me ask you this.... how many times have you seen someone post "I wasn't honest on my app and they made me leave"?

    And your Landstar reference doesn't work. I agreed to drive for an owner in San Antonio, and went from Northern Idaho (on my dime) to Irving, TX for orientation... only to have to give up because the owner od a small company in WA that I worked for had gone out of business... and you'd better bet I disclosed it. It wasn't checked until AFTER I drove 1900 miles.

    You're awfully quick to side with the "victim" here.

    First of all if you worked for a company that went out of business, there are ways to get documentation to show you worked for that co,i.e: tax paperwork like w2 forms. I've seen that before and I don't believe a co is going to just throw somebody loose for that reason. They must have found something negative on a background check that person didn't disclose which can & will result in dismissal immediately.

    Yeah, and imagine if drivers fired companies every time they found out the company lied. There would be a lot of empty trucks.

    I agree. When I went to Landstar, they asked for alternative documentation on a few things. The proof they asked for was very reasonable and it wasn't a problem.

    They couldn't get the form returned, and quit trying. Wasn't like they were out any money. I have a spotless background, but evidently the folks who subcontract for Landstar didn't feel like making an effort. I was already pre-approved at Total (USX), so I hung out with my son and daughter in OKC, then went to orientation in Jackson, MS on Monday.

    Actually the biggest problem is verification of past employment- Some company's just won't give the info that USX wants during orientation or at all. Having a application in orientation that is not the same as the one you submitted to the recruiter- and having gaps in employment more then 30 days without notarized statements accounting for gaps.

    If you go to orientation at USX, it is a cattle call. They are usually looking for a reason not to hire you unless you are a husband and wife team you could get sent home for anything.

    And USX does not agree to hire you until you complete orientation and are assigned a truck or trainer.

    What sucks is that they want you to be unemployed before they will consider hiring you.

    And that's how they get you. Grass is greener here. You quit your old job, You go in, get rejected, and have nothing to go back to. Absolutely sad that truck companies have to slam the door on those who leave.

    I agree with those that look at the company parking lot and the use of recruiters. Word of mouth is much better. Turn over rate is critical in our business as in other businesses.

    I worked for USX for 7 months , I was hired in as a dedicated route Driver , but once i was hired after orientation i was told that there wasnt any available openings , after they tried talking me into becoming a lease op. driver i declined and they stuck me OTR , they had told me that I would be next in line for a dedicated spot but after 7 months of hassel I decided to quit and get a local job. As far as a OTR driver it was great for the first 3 months made an average of 2800-3300 miles a week but after my 3 months milage droped and I began to sit alot. Communication is horable with USX I worked for 3 other major companies and USX is by far the worste, Home time wasnt to great i got home about every 26 days after keeping on them about gettimg me home. after I quit a week later they called me up and told me they had a dedicated route for me . I declined as i had been fortunit to get a better local Job . I have some friends I still keep in contact with at USX 2 of them have been Lease Op for over 5 months now and they are still making a negative paycheck every week i would advise against becoming a lease op especialy now that they got rid of percentage pay, and stuck every one with floatiing milage pay.
