Im with ya FLATBED. I know drivers that cant go to bathroom without it.An drivers with headsets on. Like i put my shoes on.wtf I dont like being that connected.Thats just me. YES i use the stuff. also could get along without it.
diesel_weasel and FLATBED Thank this. -
I know what you mean.
People have nearly all forgotten how to ride a horse with all these cars speeding around.
How many know how to bridle up a wagon to 4 Clydesdale's with all these 18 wheeler's caring all the freight now days.
Why they cant just stick with the old tried and tested ways of doing things.Bumpy Thanks this. -
Let me be clear on what I meant in my 1st post.
GPS, like your truckers Atlas, Electronic Logs, Fuel Finder Book, Cell Phone, is a helpful TOOL, not a NECESSITY.
When used as a constant Necessity, GPS usually winds up wasting more time and causing more problems. I use it myself, usually for my last few final turns at night when it is hard to read street signs.
I have seen statements made by some on this site that they have thrown all Atlases and maps away because "they are now worthless."
I'd love to see their faces when their GPS breaks or crashes and they can't remember how to get to a customer. I have seen family, friends, coworkers, relatives who have driven to the same places thousands of times now think they need that box to talk to them to simply get to work or back to the family farm for a get-together.
It bothers me because those of us who grew up without it are forgetting how to read maps and use our heads and sense of direction, and the younger generation is not learning any of this to begin with.
I can't wait for they day back up cameras are made standard on all tractor-trailers, and new drivers are taught that they don't need to learn how to back up without one.
From my point of view the less electronic interference i have in my life, the better off I am.FLATBED and fancypants Thank this. -

Duly noted on the opinion part but it appeared to me like you were following in the footsteps of all the other "technologically-challenged" people in this thread that are acting like they think other people can't get by without their gps.
Yeah, so? Just because so many cars and trucks have gps's on the dashes automatically means they are being used as requirement rather than a tool? Wow, yer no better than Mr wannabe psychic up there.....
I know this comment wasn't directed at me but, good for you. You want a medal or a chest to pin it on? I can get by without any of my electronic gadgets, but I choose not to. I mean, where would the fun in that be?
Whatever, go waste someone else's time.
This retarded comment has nothing to do with what I said which wasn't even directed at you in the first place.....
Seriously? You know drivers that need a gps to tell them where the bathroom is? You must be joking, I hope. I agree with ya on the Bluetooth headset, tho. The only time I wear mine is when I'm driving and on the phone. These morons that wear them like a hat cracks me up.... -

Your comment really Shows who has the RETARDED tendancies if you believe theres not a chance of TECHNOLOGY failing..
You want a medal or a chest to pin it on
Sorry already GOT them , starting in a RICE PADDIE in VIETNAM.
Anyhow since your like a TIN can with 2 rocks in it , totally useless but easy to rattle and get it to make some noise , I will not bother you in the future.

I use the atlas for an overall 'picture' of my route before I set out (if I don't already know), then set up my Rand McNalley 710 to find my TS, watering holes, CAT scales, service points and plan my stop for each night.
I find more than 95% accuracy and especially help ful for a last minute route change in case of accident, construction or whatever.
Give up the technology? yea...let's go back to pony express, horse and buggy and leeches.
