First off I would like to say how much I really enjoy this site, from what I have seen people will help you out on here. I also get a pretty good laugh on some the stuff people write. Much appreciated. So I have started Roehl's phase training program. I am glad they offered me this one instead of the one in Marshfield or Gary. It is 8 days of classroom and road training and then you move on with trainer for up to 13 days. The instructors and everybody around the terminal are really cool. Today we did more classroom stuff and we took out a couple trucks so they could see where we stand. I haven't driven in over a month and it showed, I had to knock off some serious rust! But I still did good along with other 5 people in my class. If you you decide to go with Roehl as a newbie and they offer you phase training I highly recommend it.
Started phase training with Roehl on 27 JUN 11 in Ellenwood,GA

Glad to see you are enjoying it, it is a good class, just wish Steve could have gone with you. Learn alot, and put it to use with that road trainer...
Ultra7 Thanks this. -
I was in Ellenwood yesterday and picked up the only MT that was there and it was sitting down the hill where you guys were discussing the finer points of trailers with your instructors.
Ya'll (can you tell I'm from Texas?) made a good choice with Roehl. Listen, learn and you will do fine.Last edited: Jun 29, 2011

Its also still a nice little hiding spot down there lol -
Finished day 4 today. The switch finally came on with the close quarter parking today. My down shifting seems to back up to speed now if I can just get my up shifting back to where it was I should be good to go. I had some difficulty navigating some of the turns in an industrial park but I will still keep pushing forward to get better at it. And to CM59, I had to think about it but now I remember who you are.

Finished Day 6 today and with some guidance I finally broke through and got a lot of smoothness with my shifting back. It wasn't perfect but a major improvement from 4 days ago. They told us we already have trainers assigned and after today I am ready to move on to that part of our training. Just 2 days left of phase one.

I was in Ellenwood this morning to relay loads. Saw you guys coming in as I was just about to go back on the road. Have fun, be safe and welcome aboard.

Thanks NB71. Well even though our official hire date isn't until tomorrow, the 5 of us have been given the green light to move on to Phase 2 with a road trainer. We did our last bit of paper work this afternoon after a nice quiet morning out on the road. Tomorrow we go in to finish up some classroom stuff and then we will be off to do a reset before we head out with our trainers on Wednesday. The people I have been here with were awesome and maybe the funniest group of people I have ever been around at one time. I am so glad went to this program because with the training and guidance I got here it definitely got me back into the swing of things again.

I will be starting Phase 2 today. I am at the terminal waiting for my trainer to pick me up later this morning. I am a little nervous but excited to get out there and gaining more knowledge from my trainer while doing some road trips.
