I used to teach guys how to fill out the monthle summary. Now we have lunch during the HOS part of orientation and can't figure out why we keep getting placed OOS for our violations. I know I'm not the smartest guy in the world but I see a correlation.

I don't have a issue with EOBR's for the most part. The main problem I see with them is drivers building a dependency. I can just imagine a rookie trucker on their own for their first trip and the MCP going down. :biggrin_25513:

I don't want it to go down either. WTF am I supposed to do to get my 8 day record that I have to have if the thing breaks? And no, I will not keep both an electronic and paper record. This is getting ridiculous.

For starters it's illegal to keep dual logs. If the MCP goes down, you can call your logs dept and have them fax you your 8 day history. Pilot/flying J, etc will let you use their fax machines.

I think the biggest problem with HOS is the floating week. It really makes it confuseing and the way I hear people being dispatched is ridiculouse.

example you run real hard 5 days 60hrs next day you sit then work 4 hrs repowering someone else next day run a back haul 3 hrs next day repower 2 hrs ya drop a day got 15 hrs to play with run 6 ect ect .

just seams stupid get jerked around and never any real free time because you are under load or on "call"

why is it so difficult to get it together?

bad enough we on the road for weeks on end but stringing people along with short hauls just so they do not have to do a 34hr reset is plain silly.

maybe when I start it will make better sense but I doubt it.
But this is what it is. TRUCKING HAPPENS lol

One question I have is If you work under FORCE DISPATCH Do you still have the same right to refuse? Or do you just put all down on the Qualcom and say" I told you I only had 4 Hrs left, I am halfe hour away from custommer Please send a repower"

Or can I be relieved from dutty and drive it there on my own time lol

You can always refuse if you don't have the hours to legally do it. More likely they will have you grab it and go anyway while they call the customer and reschedule the appt. or repower it. That's better than losing the load entirely. Advise them of the situation, get the load on the trailer, and let them work it out. Work in the best interests of the company without compromising yourself and you'll do well in this business.

Eh, you could. You're still screwed if you get caught on the way to the fax machine.

If the receiver is 30 miles or less and there is no scale or bad traffic I will deliver. Then wait till your break is over and you are well rested to send an empty call. If I am unable to make the delivery on time I know before I leave shipper I explain the situation and give a good ETA. If they bug you repeatedly after that without an intelligent solution turn off the cell phone ringer.

Xactly...Nobody can alter the space/time continuum and if they ask you to deliver 1000miles away in 8hrs, then I say it's on them for being stupid and I won't let it affect me...If I can't do it, nobody else can either so it is what it is regardless of someone's unreasonable expectations....Someone else's bad planning is not my problem...

It isn't illegal to keep dual logbooks...It's illegal to run two logbooks.

Do you understand the difference? Do I need to explain it to you?
