True Meltom, sorry I did t specify, I was trying to make the post short because it seems like I always ramble. I'll get used to the forum life. It would e been a good break to redraft but I had to deliver in Oklahoma city by 11 am. I guess in a perfect world, they would e loaded me in a couple of hours and I had plenty of time. But starting my 14 hours at 8pm, would have given me enough time to legally get there but not to deliver, as they only take you an hour prior to appt.

On a less slightly less "controversial" topic, my dad decided to team up with me on the load I'm hauling now. He quit trucking already but this is the way we catch up. We are running a way that is considered illegal. He tells me it was legal before my time but no longer. He drives for 5 hours then I drive for 5 and we alternate. It may be illegal, but we are definitely very well rested and we drive harder and longer that way. What do you log police truckers think about the current system? The system that we decided to use? It is surely safer

I think a 5 and 5 team is dumb. Most of us need 7 to 8 hours of rest. I think the current HOS need some tweaking but its not a bad system. Alternating after such a short period in a team operation sounds like a good way to push yourselves past your ?imits easily. Ok, I'm done with my incoherent rambling now. Be safe

5 and 5 was a good system.....But it's gone the way of the horse and buggy....
Before too long HOS will be like the European system....8 hours total....That's on-duty and driving combined.....
Your sons and daughters should they continue the driving gig...will be in a totally controlled environment....
Cab forward cameras.....
In-cab cameras and mikes.....
EOBR's tied to the ECM to shut a rig down completely if the driver continues to run over hours.....
The future is so bright....We gotta wear shades.....

There are many out there that work for companies who's dispatchers don't care. Their safety dept and dispatch work against each other and the driver is stuck in the middle. Sure you can quit when it's possible. Sometimes some have to prepare themselves financially or make sure they aren't stuck trying to figure how to get a bunch of stuff home.
But with CSA2010, things are changing now that companies are being held accountable. Logbook cheating is phasing out. Once 100% elogs are in place it will be impossible. -
I still like the guy whose sig line says something about a driver telling the dispatcher "You do know there's only 24 hours in a day."

Don't confuse them with reality.
Not everyone can just change their delivery time.
This is an easy one..... be in the wrong area of chicago...
Ohio's legal gross weight was 78k but they gave a tolerance that allowed you 80k. I think its since been changed. But if you was a real d**k in the scale they could and would bust you for being over. And if you was over the 80k mark they would kick you back to the 78k for the fine.
