My local dealer got a couple of old Werner trucks on the lot. The one I'm interested in is a '06 379 with a C15/13spd and 418k on the clock. How is Werners maintinance program and is it true that the lower mileage Werner trucks are rebuilt wrecked trucks? I ran the engine number through Cat and they're were only a couple of minor claims on the engine so that is a plus. The transmission seemed to be in good shape too. I didn't get to drive the truck because the dealer was closed, but I got in it and run through the gears and it shifter smoothly. The only drawback was that the paint was faded and I could still see the Werner graphics on the side and the top of the hood was oxidized pretty bad.
Also, does anyone know if Werner takes out the idle timer or speed limiter before they sell the trucks?

You might just be lucky with that long nose. They've been trying to weed them all out of the sleet in favor of the short nosed trucks.
Their maintenance program is a joke. PM every 4000 gallons, and a pat on the ### if the company driver gives a #### about the truck. The dealer might have done a decent job of cleaning up/rebuilding the truck, but I've turned in 2 trucks that were ready to be sold when I was assigned to them, and they were run absolutely ragged. I'd be in the shop once a month if I was lucky pulling nothing but 80,000lbs.
They do remove the governor when they take the trucks out of the fleet. Takes all of 3 minutes on a laptop plugged into the diagnostic port.
Also, that 13 speed wasn't ever used by a company driver in the top range. They get the 13s by adding a top range to their 9 speed transmissions.
I had a trainer that bought an 05 379 from them. When they installed the APU, they didn't flush the shavings out of the fuel tank. He yelled at me for lugging the truck going downhill, took the seat, and ran 35mph for 29 more miles until the fuel filter was entirely choked off with aluminum. -
There's nothing to "take out"....it's simple ECM settings.
