Hello, I have over 20 years experience in trucking in the UK and would like to come over to Canada to work, I am currently having my paperwork processed to be able to work in Canada. I would be greatfull if anyone could give me some answers to some questions, 1 as a company driver doing long haul on average how much tax is taken out of your pay and are there any other deductions before you get your take home pay. 2 Doing long haul driving are you entitled to a tax rebate at the end of the year for working away from home. 3 During the winter in bad weather do trucking companies keep their trucks moving or do they take them off the road

1. The tax taken is dependent on many factors. But if you are making $1000/wk count on about 25% give or take.
2. It's not what you make but what you keep. Get a good accountant who understands trucking and yes there are lots of opportunities to qualify for tax breaks.
3. We run no matter what. It is up to you, the driver, and you rarely hear of a company taking their trucks off the road. If the company is making that decision you can bet most of the trucks are already parked where the weather is bad.
There is a whole crew of your countrymen working at Paul's Hauling out of Winnipeg, MB. I think they like you British drivers over there.
Good luck on your move. -

SGT has a no chain policy, on area's ur allowed to actually use them if you ever have to you have to shut down instead. Other than that this is canada, take her slow and easy forget you have a brake pedal, barely touch your throttle and you can get thru some pretty nasty stuff no problem. My trick for the winter is if the old timers are pulling in and shutting down so do I.
