Gee, I tried exclaiming that in a similar thread a while back and people still argued with me!

    Me too!

And while yer at it, get'em a king-size order of whaaaaamburgers and french cries!

I drive solely at night so I see the same lights every nite so quit the bickering. My lights are aimed properly so if one of you gets a dose of highbeams thrown back atcha just for my road lamps, don't start wondering why you got highbeamed. If I forget to dim my lights, then by all means, gimmie a quick reminder. Otherwise, you blind me, I'm gonna blind you in return. Nuff said.

Fog lights are not exclusively yellow. What determines whether an accessory light is fog or driving is the fluting on the glass which gives the light its pattern. There are many fog lights which have clear lenses. Yellow lenses do reduce the glare in fog as well creating better definition of lighted objects in the same conditions, so they are better suited for that purpose. FYI, high beam headlights in France (and possibly elsewhere) are yellow to reduce the glare.

Fog lights have a low, wide pattern that provides good illumination of the road edges and immediately in front of the vehicle. Moderate to heavy snow has much the same effect so that is another good use of fog lights (especially as the glare off the driving snow creates a "mesmerizing" effect). Driving lights have a narrow, focused beam which illuminates your lane much farther away than high beams.

Fog lights should not operate when the high beams are on and driving lights should not operate when the low beams are on. If I install accessory lights on a vehicle I will set them up that way as well as being able to turn off the headlights or daytime running lights (DRLs are typically the high beams on lower wattage).

There's a little more to it other than the pattern of the lense. Like you said down below, they reduce the glare because the yellow light doesn't reflect back at you and make visibility worse. That's why in my mind, true fog lights are yellow and why they shiuld only be used in inclement weather, especially fog and heavy snow. But the other ones, the ones everyone is whining about are not fog lights. They are road lamps. That old Century i drove even referred to them as road lamps, not fog lamps, and they had the exact same wide, short-distance light pattern.
Again, that's why true fog lights should only be used for fog.
Point taken, but that's in France. BTW, you can go to JC Whitney and order yellow headlight bulbs if you so desire.
Again, when they are yellow. My cascadia has road lamps with that same lense but the only reason I use those in snow and fog is because they help me see the roadside better because they don't shine the same way as the headlamps which would blind me even more.
LOL, if those were the kind of lights being used that everybody was complaining about, I would fully understand the complaints. But the lights that are being used are road lamps that so many people mistake for fog lamps.

Exactly. But these lights everyone is concerned about are neither fog lights nor are they driving lights. They are road lamps.

I ran northern Ontario( Hwy 17 and 11) for many years with no... pick one(fog, road, driving lights)without any problems so I really don't see the need to run down a 4 lane divided highway on a clear night with these annoyingly bright lights on.

Wow, guess this futile attempted "War On Completely Harmless Lights" movement really took a dive bomb.....

Stop complaining guys. I have a simple solution for all these wannabe truckers with fog lights constantly turned on.

Get a good set of backup lights. I got mine from germany imported. Then when they're behind you or pass you going the other direction, give em a good flash. If they don't clue in, I hope they can see staring at lights as bright as the sun. LMAO.

But no really. Give up the #### fog lights. If you have that much trouble seeing at night, you shouldn't be qualified to drive a class 8 vehicle. Seriously.
