I am 60 years old and would like to get into trucking.

Does anyone know of companies in the NW that would consider hiring me.

Schneider Trucking used to have a program centered on mature drivers. I am 58 and don't really think age is a problem with the starter companies. A few I talked with a couple of years ago said nothing about age. Considering the turnover of new and/or young drivers I would think most would like to hire mature drivers. If you only drove for 6 years until retirement, its 6 years more driving than they will get out of a lot of new drivers. There is also a lot to be said for mature drivers' not necessary needing home time as much as the young drivers. Most of us have seen our children grow up and our wives can live with out us for a few weeks at a time. Also most of us are in a little better financial situation. I say find a local CDL school and go for it. I am. I start school on the 25th and hope to be in a training program by early September.

Contact May trucking. They hire cdl grads and train. Will reimburse cdl school tuition, but, they do not have their own school.

I dont see where that would be an issue. I have a 55 year old man in my class going for his CDL. To be honest, I think he is looking forward to it.

If that is what you want to do, then go for it.

I had plenty of mature guys (50+) in orientation with me at Swift (Pacific WA).

Half of our class is between the mid fifties and early sixties. Trucking companies are looking for mature individuals. A few of us are seriously entertaining flatbed. I have already received calls from CT Transport and Maverick Trucking. Just remember that you will be required to do some kind of physical test.
