This was in a 96 FLD, N-14-370, the first truck I drove for more than a few trips

Been a long time, but it had brass cup(sleeve) crack allowing fuel into the coolant, the company did an in frame in house,

It spun a bearing the first week, someone said it was due to the bearing being wrong, they then did an out of frame in house, and that took weeks. They sold the truck to one of the company drivers who wanted his own, he wasn't worried about it, and the guy who did it the 2nd time did it right.

Highly specialized shops running around the clock should do one in days or up to a week. 1 mechanic getting interrupted and having to get parts in could take over a month.

I see your from pa and if your shop uses same machine shop that mine uses, they are backed up big time with so many gliders and guys keeping older trucks. I had almost 3 weeks tied up waiting on block and head. Good luck

One tech, uninterrupted should be able to do it in a week easily. If it is taking 5 weeks, something is wrong

The block needed to be repaired, first of all, and the tech was the boss, he had to run the shop as well, Not everyone is able to only do 1 thing at a time. It was in house and no one was that worried about fixing that old truck up to put it back on the road. I was in one 4 years newer by then.

If you take one to a small shop where 1 man runs it all, it just might take longer than a week.

The problem with most shops, is like going to the dentist. 30 customers in one day, though every customer only get's 20 minutes. they do no take all day to work on any one persons truck. they will take several jobs at once to not lose customers, & with ordering parts & getting hung up on an earlier customers truck will put all others after him behind. I have seen it many times. 8 trucks in one shop, parts everywhere & 4 people working on 8 projects. then there are always things they or you do not count on. like what may be found after the quote on price & time on a particular job. the engine usually get tore down quick, then after some process, there will be something else that is needed, that has to be ordered,e.t.c. then while they are waiting for your part to come in, they go back to some transmission they were rebuilding, & now the trans parts finally came in & it takes longer to get it built back & installed, then they get to you, but it is several day's later.

I guess that is just the way it is at a lot of places. when you walk into a shop & know your truck has been in there for 8-9 day's & all other trucks have came in after yours & yours is still not finished, you want to say... I want every mechanic off the other trucks & on my truck right now & finish it before taking on more work. but that will not happen. the shops that get the job done with quality & in a timely manner are to be commended. the shops that say upfront, it will take 2-3 weeks are fine with me, as long as they tell you that upfront.
