Started at builders transport today

Started at BTC in memphis today. So far it looks like a pretty decent place. Orientation started at 7 this morning. Lots of paper work then stress tests and a dot physical since I left my long form at home. They provided a great lunch and supper. Hotel is a nice fairfield inn. I will update as orientation and training progress.

 

Day two was mostly about load securement and smith system of defensive driving. They have two ex dot officers in their safety department. Was nice to have a dot point of view about what is getting inspected. They are taking a serious stance on improving their safety rating. Lunch was great and they ordered fried chicken from a nearby italian resturant??? Chicken was some of the best I've had. I guess BTC's thoughts are feed a stray and he will never leave. LOL

 

Ok, here is an update. I finished orientation on wednesday. My trainer was in new york so i waited around in memphis for a couple days then was told it would be monday before I started with him. I only live a couple hours from memphis so i just went home for the weekend. There was one other guy in my class that didnt get out with a trainer last week. He was from virginia so they let him stay in the hotel over the weekend until his trainer gets there monday. Overall im impressed with the company. Its small so you get to know people pretty quickly. Their safety rating has been adressed in an earlier post. They seem genuinely concerned with improving it. They are weeding out the bad apples and doing alot of training to get people compliant with CSA 2010. They are giving me a fair chance so im going to do the same for them.

 

Well finnished training thursday. Took my alabama coil test and applied for my twic card friday. Unfortunately the 17 macks that were supposed to come in last week didnt so right now they dont have a truck for me. So they are paying me to sit at home till a truck opens up. Hopefully ill get a truck sometime next week. Overall I still like the company and am looking forward to driving for them. THey fed everyone good friday. Had a fish fry at the terminal.
