Look, it takes a year or two to lose a lot of excess weight exercising for hours a day, right? Then you hit that ####### plateau and most people give up and start gaining weight again!

If a person stops eating altogether for whatever reason (fasting or starving) they can use up their fat reserves and look like a concentration camp survivor in less than 90 days.

When you stop eating, you stop loading your blood up with the sugar that blocks fat burning.

Atkins made a fortune with this simple knowledge.

When you exercise you use your muscles, muscles do not run on fat, they run on sugar. You will need to eat sugar to supply them with fuel or you will not be able to have any endurance to exercise.

When you load your blood up with sugar to prepare for your daily exercise routine or after exercise when you get hungry and consume sugar to replace what your muscles just consumed, you are blocking your fat burning.

Don't exercise, don't raise your blood sugar all day with carbs/sugars, and watch the fat burn off naturally with no effort beyond brain power.

People are fat because they are like a partially clogged sink drain, the fat is overflowing because is being choked off from going down the drain by high blood sugar that tells the body to store and not burn fat when there is plenty of sugar to use instead.

(to the body all carbohydrates are sugar, whether they are "complex" or simple, the body turns it all into glucose which is sugar)

I agree with sugar being the culprit. The Atkins diet still incorporates carbs, just not ones that come from white flour products or sugar. As someone who has just, and I do mean just, lost 50 lbs in the last 90 days on a very low carb diet, you can still have incredible endurance for exercise.

I lift every other day, and do cardio at least 5 days a week. Fat is a better energy source than carbs. When you tap into your bodyfat for energy, meaning you have burned all available carbs first, fat is a more efficient source of energy. I feel strong as an ox and can lift harder and my cardio is great.

If you don't exercise you will lose muscle. The more muscle you carry, the more fat the body burns naturally. You need exercise to stay healthy, period.

Well, haven't checked my weight in a few days. Just walked 3.5 mi at a truck stop in South Carolina. I've slipped up a bit on the diet a few times this past week. So, kicking myself there. Still I can tell I'm getting smaller, if not lighter. I think a lot of it is with the walking/jogging/exercising I'm gaining some more muscle mass that's counteracting the fat loss. Which is fine. But, it's aggravating when you expect/hope to see the number lower than last week and it's almost the same.

    Hi Sly Fox...

Just read your 'journal' here :) I'd like to say that I think you're doing good at keeping to your plan. As others have said, though, don't get discouraged by 'setbacks'... we're all human, we make mistakes. Success is how we rebound from failure :)

I have to say that I am kinda in a similar situation (although I'm not a trucker yet...). Overweight (5'9", @ 260) with high bp (last check was 140/82, on bp medicine), and I'm basically a couch potato :( I've been heavy all of my life... was abt 200 when I was a teenager :(

I _hate_ the word 'Diet'! I have never really been on one because I know 'ahead of time' that I won't stick to it. I am addicted to food :)

I like what people have said about 'lifestyle change' instead of 'diet'... it makes more sense and seems more of a 'reachable' goal.

I hope you keep up with your 'change' and keep a positive attitude :)

Weighed myself yesterday, and at 318. Not bad considering my truck's been in the shop and it's felt like I've pigged out non-stop. That's the one killer to my diet is when my plan goes haywire and I'm stuck in a hotel for a few days.

Two days ago I walked 5.7mi. Yesterday I walked 9.5mi (just over 3hrs) while cooped up in a hotel. Went and toured the town I was in. Truck still getting repairs and possibly stuck for the weekend.

So, not happy. But, what are you going to do.

Great job on the weight loss and 41 pounds is just awesome. I'm starting CDL school Monday but I know I need to lose weight too...Just at 300 Lbs. Sitting at a computer working and eating poorly for the past 5 years didn't help. I got my 1 year DOT cert but my blood pressure was at 140/88. I don't take any meds but that was an eye opener since my BP normally was 130/75, but that was minus 40 pounds ago. Anyway since we are both close to the same weight I will definitly be checking in on this post and seeing how you are doing and letting you know how I am doing too. Keep it up and will check in again soon.

Sly Fox, you are on the way to achieving your goals, don't give up on your "diet" just yet.

Last week, I decided to finally cut soda out of my diet and went to strictly water. I was drinking 4-1 liter bottles of Diet Pepsi a day. Diet soda just makes me hungry so I won't drink that crap any longer.

Also, I went to wal mart and this was the extent of my grocery list: 8 green peppers, broccoli, whole wheat bread, turkey lunch meat - the real turkey, not the processed stuff, celery, 4 gallons of water - only $1.00 at walmart for each. At the truck stops they cost $2.99!, natural peanut butter and reduced sugar jelly. I already had mayo and marzetti's ranch dressing in the fridge, so I didn't get more.

For breakfast, 1 slice of bread and pb and jelly. A few vegetables for filler. For lunch, 1 slice of bread, 1 slice of cheese and 1 slice of meat. Fold it up and it is thick like a regular sandwich. Vegetables for filler with a little ranch. Finally, for dinner, 2 slices of bread, 2 meat, 1 cheese a little mayo and veggies for filler.

I dropped 100lbs in 1993 to join the Marines but got kicked out when my weight became uncontrollable (my choice). I have struggled with weight issues my whole life and became a type II diabetic at age 33. I used to drink a lot of Pepsi. Now, I can struggle with weight AND diabetes. The above mentioned diet is very boring, but it is all in your head. I LOVE FOOD! I love to eat and eat and eat, but at age 37 I can't do that anymore. Please just realize that food doesn't define you and use this formula when eating: 15g of carbs = 1 carb. 3-4 carbs per meal is the nominal amount you need. If you are just sitting and driving all day, 1-2 works just as well. With your exercise, if you were to buy a heart beat monitor you would want to keep your heart over 140 bpm for at least 20 minutes a day when you walk. Don't get me wrong, the distances you walk are amazing, but it's more about quality of the exercise as opposed to quantity.

I pull a flatbed and have to tarp all the time, so when I am tarping for 2 hours, it makes for great exercise.

Cut out all candy as it is evil.

No pasta ever as it is evil too.

Anyway, that's what works for me and I was able to lose 9 lbs in one week. Good luck and happy travels!

Steering Wheel Holder has the best reply I have read on this blog. Its hard to lose weight I know I have lost over 100 lbs. Listen most of the time its now how much we eat but WHAT WE EAT!!!!. If you eat the right food you will want to eat the right amount naturally. Do some research and find a diet that works for you. Stop Only Sugar is a great one. Read Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It by Gary Taubes. Use hcg to get that weight off fast and safe. There is no need to have expensive surgery to lose weight. YOU SILL HAVE TO MAKE THE LIFESTYLE CHANGES EITHER WAY. Keep going Sly Fox its worth it
