Taxi vs Trucking....

Downside to a bus driver position as well.

 

Screw being a taxi driver... I'm not about to go to crazy locations where I'm suppose to meet some random guy who may or may not want a handful of my goodies.

























Credit cards, cash, I mean being a taxi driver you must make loads.

I drove a taxi around the Chicago suburbs for a year before deciding to get into trucking. I decided if I was going to have to spend 18 hours a day in a vehicle I might as well have a bed behind me.

The way it works most of the time with driving a cab is you lease the cab, pay for gas and tolls, whatever you have left over is yours to keep. Insurance and maintenance is included in the lease. You are not an employee but an independent operator. You also can convert your vehicle into a cab if you wish, no lease but you will have fees for dispatch service and all expenses are yours.

Some weeks you do good, some weeks you make next to nothing. If you want to make any kind of real money expect to put in long hours, most cab drivers spend way more time working every day than we are allowed to. Sure you "get to pick your hours" but there are certain times of day you pretty much have to work because that is when people call cabs, usually early morning and late afternoon and early evening. Trust me it's not a job where you will be able to get by working only 8 hours a day 5 days a week. When you are home all you will want to do is sleep.

There is also the safety issue, but that is highly dependent on where you work, I was in some of the wealthier area's around Chicago so 90% of the time I was picking up business travelers and taking them to O'Hare.

Personally I am making more money entry level in trucking than is really possible driving a cab, plus I also get benefits. The downside is I'm not home for weeks at a time, no biggie for me though as I don't have a wife and kids.

here in boston you have to rent you taxi up front for the day,, 400$ plus for most taxi companys,, anything after you pay your "rent" is yours.. lots of hustling to make a buck, + you buy your own gas.

 

Ive Driven a taxi , ambulance, and now just beginning in the trucking industry. So far the biggest pro is that the loads never comlpain or give u any bs. As a taxi driver everyone was always surpised when they got in and saw a white guy that spoke english as a first language behind the wheel.
