You can do it. I started at age 63 after sitting behind a desk for 40 years.

Which is fine for someone in good physical condition. There are 63 year olds who are in shape, and then there are 63 year old physical wrecks.

The key is to know, AND ACCEPT which one you are. If you really do have things that will D/Q you from the job, you need to realize it, and go find something else to do.

Hell, I would (sometimes anyway) 100% rather still be driving than being retired. But I realize what the facts are with my particular situation. From what I have seen of the OP's threads, it really does not sound like he should even try a driving gig.

You probably should not get into that habit. He isn't nearly as smart as he thinks he is, and agreeing with him just gives him a big(ger) head.:biggrin_2559:

I am 58 and will starting CDL School on Monday. Only health issue is moderate blood pressure which requires a yearly medical card renewal. I am not too over weight, hike 2 to 3 miles daily, biking another 40 miles, eating right and generally live a healthy life style. Because of this I don’t think my age is going to be much of a factor. Like Big Don said, I know people 10 years older than me who are in better shape then I and I know people 10 years younger who can hardly walk around their desk. My advice is to download Roehl’s physical test and see if you can do it.

I completely understand. I only have about 7 years before I want to retire. My objective is to become O/O. I have the cash resources that few truck drivers have. In my past life I financed three O/O. These were three of about 300 businesses financed over a 10 year period. I have appraised small businesses, have an MBA and believe I understand how to determine the financial downsides once I am in the business.

I don't mean any disrespect here, but why do you want "to become an O/O"? And, I may have read your post wrong, but shouldn't you determine (as much as you can) the financial downsides (translation: chances of losing money and going belly up) before you're in the business?
