As a Shaffer driver for nearly 3 years, it's true...log it as you do it! Our logs are electronically faxed via Transflo service for pay, which are scanned electronically in Boca Raton, Florida, for the 10, 11, and 14 hour rules for starts. Crete/Shaffer will match your Qualcomm arrive/depart messages, fuel, start/shutdown from city to city, etc., and if they jive within 15 minutes, as i understand it, you have no problem. For your arrive at shipper/consignee just follow their simple rules to show 15 minutes arrive and 15 minutes depart, and a few other very basic rules, and you can make a very good income...all legal. I have worked non-stop since April 2006 and will take my break after New Year's day in 2007. I have 6 years experience as an OTR driver. Shaffer is my 3rd and final company I will work for. I'm very happy with the miles, pay, and Shaffer's company culture. My income for 2006 is the best year thus far in trucking...over $55,000. And I'm on the low end of the pay scale just at .43 cpm. Right now the top pay at Shaffer is .48 for a national OTR driver. Just plain hard work, dedication, prompt on-time delivery, and following the safety and logging rules are all it takes to be successful at Shaffer. I will continue to increase my income as the years and miles roll by.

Hey couple questions before I call one of their recruiters. Are you allowed to take your truck home working for Crete? Do they have per diem pay?

  4. Most regional and the National fleet will allow you to take your truck home unless you have an anal retentive terminal manager.
Crete does not pay per diem, of which I am happy for. I can write it off myself just fine, without it reducing my reported income.

crete requires 1 year expieriance.Im sure they dont hire newbies.I thought they had hired me last year but they told me i had to have 1 year expieriance even though i had 6 months with another carrier.

  6. When I hired on it was two years, and only 1 out of 9 applicants made it through the hiring process, but yes they hire students, from the upeer half of the class, from some schools with a certain accreditation, can't remember the acronym but they do a fair job. They generally have 500 miles of road experience, along with their CDL training and CDL. Most likely the school you went to was not in that select group, but would welcome you as a worthy addition to the company. There are a lot of hoops to jump through in the hiring process but for the most part, most of our drivers are happy here.

  8. Thanks Novoids, my trainee has been following your postings, he is doing well at the end of his second week. I think he will become a safe, productive, driver for Crete, sounds like you will too.

My husband left Shaffer at the end of June. He worked there for 1 1/2 years and thinks it's a good company. Since probably around March his miles got less and less. We couldn't live on what he was making. He got 2 safety awards there. Just not enough miles. He could sit for 3 or 4 days on a load and be stuck out of state sitting and not be a home. Or drop a load and not have another one for a few days. Sitting doesn't make you any money. His new job has him moving and only waiting at the most a few hours for his next load. But usually he has his next load before he drops his current load, like it should be. Preplaned ahead of time like it should be done.

Hunt transportation is the flatbed division.
    Shaffer is the refrigerated division.
Crete is the dry van division.
Crete owns all of them and the pay is different in each division.

Depends on what you want to do..:biggrin_25519:
