Quick Analysis:
I-84 and I-15 is about the 342 Mile Sticker.
If you run 89 south, you cut off about six miles.
But it cost you about 25 miles going North West from I-80 to 89.
Then, it cost you 32 miles to get back to I-80
So, you have about 60 miles added to your trip; but NOT REALLY:
I-80 and I-15 is about the 306. This is about 45 miles, and when you add another 3 miles to I-215, you WOULD BE about 12 miles out of route. So time and distance is really not a factor unless traffic, weather or hwy shutdown for some reason.
I-15 and I-215 south end is about the 300 Mile Sticker, and by running Parley's you save more miles and a little time.
Thus, going to LA or Las Vegas, Parley's is the right route. However, if you are heading west, that extra 10/12 miles is nothing.

Still think it was bad news when they cut 53's from using Provo Canyon 189.
Going west, it adds around 12 miles. Going South it add a bit more. -
At any rate, I don't see what all the fuss over Parley's Canyon is. It's not that bad unless you drive it like a moron. There are 3 and 4 lanes through most of the downhill bit and most of the locals in four wheelers will stay in the left two lanes. The only heavy traffic is Sunday afternoons in the winter and if you happen to catch it on a weekend after a concert at Wolf Mountain.
I have been up and down that hill many times in many different kinds of weather and never had a problem. The ones who end up with smoking brakes at the bottom are the morons who top the hill at 65 on that little flat spot and, ignoring all of the warning signs, go down the hill with their foot on the brake the whole ride. I can usually go down that hill without ever touching the brakes once and be going under 65 when I get down past the worst of it (about where the water treatment plant is). -
Honestly,it is a personal preference thing. You choose parley's, I choose Weber Canyon. Really when you consider everything, it is pretty much a toss up. I originally started going the alt.route when going eastbound because I would burn less fuel. After a few times eastbound I started going westbound that way as well just cuz I grew to like it.
And I can't lie. I don't go all the way down 89 anymore. I take the exit for the highway that goes past the military base off of 89 and go west to I15(the highway number escapes me,but it is the first exit south of I84 on US89). -
Agreed! It is pretty much a toss up. However, Parley's is still the best route if you are going south. I would almost always go Weber if I was going west.
Kind of depends on weather, day of the week and the time of day, if you plan to save time and miles.
It's like the difference between hwy 30 through Montpelier or running Sisters into Utah. The mileage is the same, but if you are running heavy you make better time on hwy 30. Likewise bad weather usually shuts down the freeway before it shuts down hwy 30; unless there is an accident.
In this case it is more of a time thing.
I ran hwy 30 in my early years of driving because I knew the hwy, but was not allowed to run that way by the company. However, I shut down in Montpelier for a storm and had to report my position because of the shut down. I got chewed out but that was the end of it because all other drivers were stuck in Ogden for four days.
I delivered on time. I was never routed by dispatch after that. -
Good choice. Hill Air Force Base cut off is only about a mile across if I remember right. Still, you have a couple more lights. -
For those of you talking about Provo canyon, they changed the truck requirements when they re-did the whole road (around the 2002 Olympics). It's much windier now, but has more lanes. Good for cars, not so good for trucks. If there was an alternative to Highway 6 (Spanish Fork to Price), they would have closed that to trucks by now too. -
8,200 years ago we witnessed a major change (per science discoveries).
The North Atlantic Conveyor Belt sends a warm climate north and keeps life liveable. This conveyor belt has had a few interuptions in recent years and when it stops, there will be a new Ice Age. How long or how bad? Who know? However, it will cause sever weather changes and loss of life.
There is nothing anyone can do about it as Nature takes care of this planet and there is no stopping nature.
For those who don't understand this conveyor belt, when the North Atlantic flow reaches Greenland, it takes a dive to the bottom of the ocean and then this huge river of cold water flows south once again.
With all the polar ice caps receeding, and fresh water entering the North Atlantic, it causes desalization of the ocean. Now, not being a scientitst, I can't explain all of the variables that are being presented, but coupled with Dr. Geoffrey Goodman's book's (including updates) "We Are The Earth Quake Generation", there is a major change due planet earth real soon.
What can you do? Nothing! Just keep on trucking as we have no control over Mother Nature.
What happend during the time of Isaiha? (Ref: Earth tumbling, etc.) Well given the knowledge of the times, I would venture a guess as a huge earthquake and perhpas tidal waves in the coastal regions.
About Revelations? Same thing. Our Generations will probably witness and many will survive the coming changes. Will life change? You bet.
Will it be fun? Sorry, it won't be a roller coaster ride at the local fair grounds.
So, you are right about pepole not accepting or even liking the fact that Nature oversees human life as well as all life on this planet. However, you only have to refer to history of planet earth to see and understand that bad things happen.
As far as people going hungry in this country and any first world country, it is a matter of choice.
When you depend upon Socialism or Government handout programs, you will go hungry. When people learn to stand on their own two feet they will have a chance of living well and eating good.
It is as simple as, "I don't want anything to do with business!"
Well, you have something to do with business no matter what you do in life. You engage as an employee of someone who is engaged in business, or you engage in business yourself.
This is why I say, "there are only two kinds of people in this world when it comes to money:
1. Those who make money
2. Those who make excuses.
Thanks for cluing me in as to the Avitar. You are right! It can tick people off because of its symbolism. Yet, most can not explain the difference between C o m m u n i s m, S o c i a l i s m or even the reason we have survived: C a pi t a l i s m

JB Hunt is, by far, the worst trucking company in America. Why are they this desperate: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ng-company-here/24376-hello-from-jb-hunt.html to pound us and WHY do they feel so threatened by the TRUTH about them? Are we making a difference, possibly? Hmmm. Interesting!

i really think westside transport has the worst policies out there and is the worst of them all.
