Hi everyone, I just joined this forum...after a long job search I'm considering this while I save the money to go back to school. I'm curious what experienced drivers think is the WORST thing about trucking...if there was one thing they could single out. I thought that this could provide me with some perspective.
Of course, there's always the chance that your least favorite thing about trucking is fielding questions like these...

I'm not experienced yet, only 7,000 miles so far, but for me it has to be "the other guy" far to many people in cars appear to have minimal driving skills.

Trying to hold a family together is hard. This is coming from a wife of a trucker who loves his job and he wouldn't want to do anything else. I love the fact that he's happy driving, but when you are going through things "together" and ones not here, it's kind of hard.

you're big, long & heavy dealing with zipping little cars all around you!
will see the real American public with all the rude drivers out there!
looking for parking, even to use the restroom is a big problem most of the time!
living in truck stops using public bathrooms is not much fun!
rude customers (shippers, consignees) are prevalent.
bad docking locations will put you at backing accident risks!
driving in all kinds of bad weather
driving at night in strange locations with bad directions!
...and I could go on---trucking is NOT for the 'faint of heart!' -
What I disliked about the OTR realm was the erratic pay (really low one week pretty decent some other weeks and the fact that the companies were less than enthusiastic about the home time.

The WORST thing about trucking?
Well, the question is somewhat vague. But in my typical workday, the worst thing I encounter is the residential deliveries, especially the ones with about 5 or 6 houses sharing an UNPAVED driveway. Pallet jacks don't roll on gravel, and the house I'm looking for is always the last house.
I posted one about this in the "BROKERS 101" thread in the owner operator section. -

No, but the company does charge for those.
Funny thing is, the people I work for regard anyplace that doesn't have a dock as a residential, such as marinas, schools, churches, nursing homes, funeral homes, etc...
99% of the places I go to don't have docks. -
Everything Mr. Provacative said. Especially docks, some of these docks are freaking crazy. God I hate docks. Why I'm I a trucker?

The worst thing about trucking, that is easy.
It is all the self serving public interest groups out there constantly pushing for laws to make our job harder.
