I watch the show weekly and it just amazes me that someone with that kind of experience would abuse his truck like that. Running roads that ruff at those speed cannot be good for truck nor trailer. And I would suspect someone with 20+ yrs exp. would know better. Guess the show is paying him well enough that abusing his truck is worth it.

experience or not Hugh just seems like a moron!
GasHauler Thanks this. -
I just saw that episode the OP was referring to, and I have never seen anything like that. Shifting that fast/hard, if the rpms were off just a little, he'd have gears everwhere but in the transmission...

That statement belongs in the joke section.

I have done that going up a grade when I have to swap fast. But it is not the best way to shift, and I would not bother with it on an up shift. Too easy to just float them on up. Double clutching is not the best option when going up a steep grade though. Just takes too long and it is too easy to miss a gear. So you end up almost having to drop 2.
If you single clutch just to get the strain off the gear it will shift right into the next one down.
I have to say that the host of that show is rather odd though. Or maybe just flaming. Not sure which. -
If your talkig about that guy that drove for USA Trucks, I thought he was down shifting??? I guess he learned that trick in the Marines...
-
ya but he was doing it on a flat concrete highway, if I recall correctly.
The show seems a little better this year, so far.
