Why do I need my headlights on? I can see just fine. Running the mountains during the Winter in Whiteout conditions here comes a White car w/ no headlights on. Brilliant! I think running lights during daylight hours makes a difference, even if it's just once.
Driving with the lights on during daylight hours?

Vehicles driving during daylight hours with headlights ON VS headlights off. It's a 'be seen' thing, right ? You may have noticed some motorcycles lately with strobe type headlights, which are better than normal lights. Headlights on do drain the batteries, but, as quick as they start to drain, the alternator re-charges them as long as the engine is running. Insurance companies and our Govt. have done tons of research on safety over the years, hence seatbelts/airbags/speed limits/tire requirements/lighting requirements/headlights on during daylight hours etc. There are some 2 lane roads in Ca. posted to "turn on headlights" during daylight hours. Why ? To be seen when attempting to pass.

So you expect the person to say "I saw that 70 foot day glow orange truck, but decided to pull out anyway" ? -

When you think about it on the point of visibility, it makes a lot of sense. Think about those really hot days when the heat is coming off the pavement. What do vehicles without their lights on look like in the distance? They're hard to distinguish sometimes whether they're moving or not. -
It just FEELS safer to me. 'Nuff said!

That's the way I was trained and I've done it ever since.

I am speechless with this question. -
Daytime running lights became mandatory in new vehicles in 1991 and I thought it was a stupid idea until a vehicle came out of the shadow on a bright sunny day and I did not see the vehicle just the lights. Now you have to watch that you do not get to complacent expecting every vehicle to have the system. I live near the boarder and we get lots of vehicles without the system, US vehicles, and with a twisting road and short passing zones, at least once a month I hear someone telling about the guy just coming out of no where.
I do have a question about those guys driving with driving lights on all the time, they do realise that the guy coming towards them can not see past them and many people when they get scared drive towards what they can see. Also those lights draw a lot of juice and it is not free.
Mind the rant.
