This is really quite simple to grasp.
Yes CWTL has showers and towels at terminals.
We also have fuel at these terminals, and fuel at many CWF yards.
Typical fueling locations are Pilot/Flying J's.
But as many OTR drivers know, you may not always get a chance to shower at the same locations or chains as you fuel.
So lets just use out imaginations for a minute.
You don't have a shower credits as your a clean truck driver and used em all.
You fuel up at any CWTL terminal in the morning and grab a shower, in reality your into 2nd day before you need to fuel again. I don't know about you, but I like to shower daily, So I purchase a shower, and batabing, I get reimbursed for it.
Or say you do have shower credits, but end your day at another chain of truck stops, again if I need a shower I purchase it.
If I can work it out to use my credits, fantastic, but if not, its nice not to have to skip a day.
Also as a foot note, if I'm in Ontario Ca for example, and I have to stay overnight at the T/A, they charge 20 bucks for parking now.
I think many companies still put that monkey of parking on the street and risking a ticket or paying out of pocket for parking on the driver.
CWTL, will reimburse that charge too.
Oh yeah, parking is free there if you buy fuel, but if don't need to buy it, why do so.
And I can grab a shower there too
Not rocket science, but I'm sure somebody will be able to turn it into a negative.
As a matter of fact, I was just reading another thread alone the same lines of some drivers having to pay out of pocket for showers

Personally, I want to thank you for pointing out my problem, I was not aware that I had one, but I guess it is do to my mindset, as I live in Utopia.
Again, not perfect, but far from all the negative you make it out to be.
CWTL has its faults, but they are far better than most.
Being I actually work there, I can speak with experience.
If your review, my Out of Route miles is 3% or less, and this is typically due to my choice to go out of the way to see my kids, or family.
I would not expect any company to pay for out of route miles.
We are paid on practical miles, and simple trip planning can put you right on paid miles, even sometimes you get a bonus of getting paid for miles you didn't run.
If I run into a detour, snow storm, flood etc, I call in and advise, and I get paid for those miles.
If drivers are paid hub miles, then you get into the company pushing forced routing on the drivers.
If I wish to cut through the woods, or go out of my way to stay on the big road, whatever, Why would the company want to pay me a extra 8% on average for miles that they can't bill the customer for?
The company is currently looking at alternatives such as zip code to zip code billing, thus paying on that.
As far as comparing the to Enterprises CWTL to CWF, they are Apples and Oranges, but Freight has their issues too.
I think at CWTL, the Positives far outweigh the Negatives.

    Helghast and Rotten Thank this.

I don't have any misperception, or even a misconception in regards of Big Brother watching my every move.
I have a smart phone with GPS, and know that my movements are tracked.
My truck is equipped with Qualcomm, and I have E-logs too.
None of that was really the subject of my statement.
My statement was simply meaning that I do not have a dispatcher constantly checking my whereabouts, what I am doing, if I'm taking a break, etc.
I know other companies, if a driver stops, somebody is calling or messaging to find out why, or if they go off route, somebody is inquiring as to why.
So yes I have a little bit of freedom to do my job, if I want to go around a loop, or thru town, I have that latitude, If I want to run across I-90, or across I-94, my call.
CWTL, gives us the info as to when to pick up, when to delv, and pretty much after that your left alone. Of course if a person needs help, there are many people in support to do so.
My bubble wasn't burst by having all this pointed out to me, although it is just my opinion that your may have read just a little to far into my comment, and of course had to attempt to turn my positive into a negative.
    My bubble remains intact.

Oh yeah, didnt even think of that
CWTL pays for Prepass, and I rarely get red lights, Trucks are equipped with EZ Pass, so don't have to worry about tolls out east, and PikePass for Oklahoma.
I don't have to ask permission to run a toll road, I save the receipt and get reimbursed, no questions asked.
Same as take the new Austin bypass.
Before its said, I have never missed a red cent in reimbursements. I keep a spread sheet of my expenses, as long as I get my stuff turned in timely, my money is on next check.
I knew up front that they hold deposit money for equipment, such as straps, broom, crow bar, lock, etc. and when I went off the road, that money was promptly returned to me.
The only money not returned is the pet deposit, but again thats upfront.
And oh yes, If I want to take a pet, I can.
CWTL also pays for my XM radio service.

No need to pay for a shower at any truck stop. Simply ask a driver to "claim you" as a co-driver. Voila' FREE shower for both drivers.

Learn to keep your money in your pocket and the company wont have to reimburse you.

Pilot/ Flying J are the largest chain nationwide and with proper planning drivers should be fueling each day and showering.

But heck what do i know? I have only been out here for 20 years.

Its obvious you are content with this employer. Of course were I to compare my pay package with yours you would soon see you come up short. Thats not your fault. It is the fault of the company you are working for.

I stand by the advice; "Look around and get paid for what you do." There are better paying outfits out there. Private carriers as well as Union and even non union ltl carriers.

    I'm glad we agree.
It should be noted, that there are also channels for folks to bring up issues, and without fear of retaliation.
CWTL has a HR department, if somebody feels they are being talked down to, they can and will address. I've seen interoffice folks reprimanded, and even let go for such things.
Open door policy is frequently used, everybody has a boss.
But there is also a chain of command that should be followed.
I have seen drivers speaking to all levels of Management, Up to the CEO, and He has a boss too.
We have a Retention Manager that looks forward to helping drivers, before they get to the point the OP got.
Sometimes folks don't take into account they way they present things either. Frustrations tend to become extremely personal, and how a issue is brought up sets the tone for how it is handled.
I wasn't on the either end of the OP phone call, so I can't presume, but being I have been on both ends at one time or another, I can tell you that When I call with a issue I try to be tactful in my presentation, and on the other end of it, if somebody calls up just blasting me, well, how much help do they think they will get in return. That is a 2 way street too. If a FM, CSR, Planner call me and talk decent to me, we will work out a deal, but if they bust my chops out the gate, well we will have a problem.
There is the ole Golden rule, goes along way.
Forums such as this, yes are a good thing, allows all points of view, or opinions to be brought to the forefront. Although it seems, if the person is disgruntled, the view gets clouded, or it might be righteous too.

Now just to be fair I will disclose what I get paid at my company.

    Mileage pay .418 cpm
    Stop pay (EVERY stop) 11.00
    Drops/hooks 5.50 each
Detention after 2 hrs 18.50 per hour
Congestion pay for NYC, Boston, and Chicago addresses; 22.00 per stop
5 paid personal days ($285.00 each)
    6 paid Holidays ($285.00 each)
3 weeks vacation at my average weekly earnings (1425.00 per week)

The company I work for also gets me home EVERY weekend and sometimes during the week depending upon load assignments.

My latest pay check dated 07/16 shows earnings of $40,554.62

Compared to other Truckload carriers I have a pretty good gig. So, Mustang how does your company really measure up after everything is said and done???

Keep in mind that there are scores of other drivers that get even BETTER pay packages than what I do. Lets try to help some of the new guys out and really offer some details about what constitutes a "good paying job" and what doesn't.

I mean you claim 19 years experience as a driver on your profile so you should have a pretty good idea of what is good and what isnt.

Since we are doing this under the guise of helping the new drivers and not pounding our own chests, it wouldn't be fair for them to expect to make what I would claim to make, at my 19 years 4 months that I have been in this game, this is what I claim. Also since I have not bounced from job to job like many drivers seem to do, that plays into the mix.
CWTL has regional areas that afford drivers home time far more often than OTR. I drive OTR, and thats my choice.
CWTL is a 48 state and Canada operation, with far more than a 150 trucks to operate. So as with attempting to compare, Freight with Truckload, or CWTl and Eastern, not the same deal.
But if your happy and you know it clap your hands. There are plenty of people that are happy here, and for the most part the ones that are just do their jobs and remain quite.
If I had the grand desire, I could go to Freight, we have a cross Enterprise program, but I don't wish to. I could about name where and with whom I wish to work for, but I'm fine here.
Again, if somebody isn't, there are avenues they can take to present themselves, or they can move on.
Funny the amount of rehires CWTL have.

New hired drivers at CWTL can expect
    Its all on the website.

    • $0.36 per mile to all single truckload drivers with one year of experience
    • $0.34 per mile to all single truckload drivers with 9 -11 months of experience
    • $0.32 per mile to all single truckload drivers with 6 - 8 months of experience
    • $0.30 per mile to all single truckload drivers with 3 - 5 months of experience

    Quarterly safety bonuses, very achievable.
Bonus rates without deductions are $.01 thru $.04 based on accumulated incident free miles.

Con-way Truckload pays an additional $0.05 for each mile dispatched in these states:

    • Connecticut
    • Delaware
    • Maryland
    • Massachusetts
    • New Hampshire
    • New Jersey
    • New York
    • Pennsylvania
    • Rhode Island
    • Vermont
    • Virginia
    • District of Columbia
Hazmat Pay, I think that it is .03-.05 per dispatched mile

Con-way Truckload offers all employees one week of paid vacation after one year of service and two weeks of paid vacation after two years.
I think the 3 week level starts after 3 years.

Vacation pay is based on the driver's average earnings over 52 weeks.

Con-way Truckload has six paid holidays at $60 per day each

Detention 2 hours free time, $17.50 a hour

Stop pay is 25.00 a stop

    Entering/Leaving Canada is $20.00

They reimburse for Passport and Hazmat endorsements

Truckload drivers receive a $2,000 bonus for each experienced company or owner-operator driver (teams count as two) hired/leased as a result of your referral.

WRONG! It should be paid from the moment you arrive at a customer.

Got any company that actually offers this? I know I haven't found ANY truckload carrier that offers this. The BEST I have found is detention after 2 hours. Not saying that is correct either just being realistic as to what is being offered.
