I take 4 full days off everytime, when they give me hell about it I'll just quit cause when I signed up it was ok to do so.
-
sounds like it might depend on the dm. the pod definitely frowns on hometime and it seems like they will make up new rules just to keep their trucks rolling.
-
i usaually go out for 6-8 and get a full 2 days off plus usually a half day if i go out for 12 my dm gives me a full three the few times i stayed out for 17-20 days i got a full four days off and i have had a couple times when i got a full five off. never once did anyone say anything about me cleaning my truck out and i just got a brand new cascadia 24000 miles ago

Each terminal is different and is run as it's own 'unit' and has it's own goals.
Also, truck availability varies widley amongst terminals.
1 terminal may have a strictly enforced 8,000 per month min. goal to keep truck,
another not so much.
1 terminal may have trucks available most any given day,
another with a 2 week wait.
A 'seasoned' DM managing a seasoned driver may have more flexibility.
So your terminal and your dm will determine how this issue is handled.
However, it does seem ridiculous that if out 5 weeks, you can't then have 5 days off etc.
Me? 18 days is about as much as I can handle and then 3 days off.... -
dats a good lookn truck!

I'm being stupid and taking a week off. I will be turning the truck in tomorrow morning in Greer, SC. And I will keep my fingers crossed they will have a truck for me when I come back next week. Right now, there are a few trucks in the G status line. Since this is one of the truck re-assignment terminals, I'm hoping for the best. But I may just be being stupid. I just worked my way back up to silver (all the lost time in June bumped me down to bronze) Fingers crossed.

Just my 2 cents but if you give up your truck and off more than a week there should be no reason you can't get unemployment until they find you a truck, thats the same being laid off not your fault it's the company.
Just saying and if your out 5 weeks you should be able to take 5 days home with your truck.
So when you go on vacation you have to turn in your truck that's just dumb they shouldn't be hiring so many people if they can't hand them a truck. -
DING-DING-DING!! WE HAVE A WINNER!!! TELL HIM WHAT HE'S WON JOHNNY!!

File for unemployment it will make their heads spin. Only thing I can see as a complication is you need to file in your state of residence. In TN you can do it online. One thing is for sure you can email your DM without a Qualcom.
When I quit I never talked to my DM. All communication was via email. Your DM needs to assure timely availability of a truck. They are suppossed to work for you.
