Haven't gotten any phone numbers yet. Looks like there aren't many "talented" folks here.

If some company thinks I'll pay for the test then they are completely lost in their visions of grandeur! Thinking way too highly of themselves!

They want a test done then they can dig deep into the owners pocket and hand it to whoever I choose to do the test!

Then if I were to fail the test and they don't want to pay the cost then I'll head on out the door! IDK if it's Peime or BFI in BQE!

THEY want THEY can pay period! If they can't come up with the money or let some stupid remark like"all the drivers pay" the drivers are not to bright and should get a job for the King or Clown! But then again it IS a Prime thread and well here I go again!
They are applying for a job at Prime or another fleecing company to lease then heck go ahead and give them another reason to take from your paycheck/settlement! I wonder if anyone has followed the money from Prime to their doctors, equipment (CPATH) warehouse and back again? Those prices above and then reading a few that show much lower prices elsewhere is a little interesting. And why NOT a doctor and supplier of your own choosing?

Yeah sounds like what an O/O gets to do by only being able to go to their doctor. Yep real owners there! Does that give you a hint as to any company and the great lease deals?

Keep dreaming that it's your truck and business!

You can go to a sleep study center of your choice and pay for it yourself. As for the machine, you can purchase it on your own, however it must meet certain requirements to monitor it's use. My machine has a memory card and I download the data with my computer and it is automatically sent to the SleepPointe.

usage is tracked over the entire year not only for air adjustments to improve sleep, but for compliance. When I came up for renewal on my DOT physical, the Dr. looked over my readout and found me 96% compliant.

Prime doesn't care where you go for the study if they think you need one. They just won't hire you until you get one.

I was kinda mad at the time, but hindsight says the study was a good thing, and the payment plan wasn't bad either.

There is a possibility that these studies could be more commonplace, much as the standard DOT physical. If it were mandated then it would no longer be so cheap to get into this business. I don't see sleep apnea as much of a problem. I have never seen any statistics that prove that this industry has more who have sleep apnea than any other industry. Nor have I seen any statistics that effectively demonstrate that having sleep apnea prohibits someone from doing this job or that it causes more accidents. I understand the basis of their argument, but I don't see any hard numbers that would support this becoming commonplace or a requirement in this industry. Only using a BMI index to determine whether someone should have the test is in itself flawed.

There aren't any statistics that are based on a population of significance to commercial drivers. The only data used by the FMCSAs Medical Review Board (an advisory committee to the FMCSA) is based on an average sample of folks who happen to be 4-wheelers.

Based on that the MAB has decided that sleep apnea is a big thing - and issued advisory comments that the FMCSA should look into adding screening for sleep apnea to the DOT physical exam requirements.

Unfortunately your opinion and my opinion don't count. The FMCSA and the Secretary of Transportation have concluded using an old, flawed study, the "Commercial Vehicle Accident Causation Study" that there are a zillion tired commercial drivers out there. Since the HOS rules are almost "perfect" minus one more stupid revision, then there must be another reason. Voilla'! The MAB comes up with something they can use against us.

That being said, there does seem to be some correlation between accidents that cannot be explained by anything outside of the guess that a driver fell asleep, and some of the drivers who may have the physical characteristics that lead to sleep apnea. In at least one tragic case - the I44 accident in OK a couple of years ago, the driver had been diagnosed with sleep apnea, but was not getting treatment.

Kind of tenuous in my book...

When the MAB issues an advisory, the insurance companies and carriers usually take it as gospel. Then they try to get ahead of the curve before the FMCSA sticks it to the industry.

    That's what has happened here.

Do you not read the previous posts before your fingers start running your keyboard?

Post no. 933 by "Seebs" details what happens during a physical exam at Prime to get you into the sleep lab - BMI is one of a number of criteria that gets you in there. Perhaps you should review that.

Supposedly SLEEP APNEA is a manditory test in MEXICO as part of their DOT physical.
