Thanks Big Rio... Man I am trying to choose where my next step will be you know some people may think I am crazy but this trucking that I have been in for close to two years has been all about challenges and meeting them and bettering myself. I look at all of it as a challenge trying to better myself and improve my skills...Can I do this , Yes I can , Lets move onto the next hurdle ... Two years and I am still a rookie ...lol..
A wise trucker on this forum told me once that when you think you know it all that is when they are putting you in a box and planting you six feet under.

Some drivers may think I am crazy as I probably have a dream job now for most truckers. I'm home all but about two nights a month I started out making all the long runs for my company but within 6 months I was over shipping and recieving and the trucks. I load and route all the trucks keep the maintenance up on all the trucks and check all driver logs for DOT violations. I get all the best routes if I choose but every couple of months take the Tampa /Clearwater route (Our worst route) because I miss driving. I think maybe I am insane for wanting to get back out on the road and do all 48 without no one looking over my shoulder and the stress of dealing with drivers and upper management. The job I have now has made me realize how tough it is on both sides of that qualcom... You have the drivers wanting stuff fixed on the trucks and you have Managment looking over your shoulder to make every penny count. I favor the drivers because that is what I am and I don't want them climbing in a truck that I would not want to climb into. But it also kills me when I take care of truck only to see a driver tear it up out of negligence. I had to let a driver go yesterday whom after several violations ( dropping a trailer & tearing off the drive tires , Running onto a pile of wet asphalt, To many log violations in a span of a month ) He ran the truck out of gas and after the tow bill and getting the truck to run right again cost over a 1,000 bucks. The guy had 7 kids and was begging for his job and it tore me up to let him go. But I have a family and other drivers have families and are counting on me to keep them running ...

I'm looking hard to go back over the road my last time out was with Swift and I learned well for a start program . But I know it has to be better then life at Swift. I have done a few over the net apps. And have turned down JB Hunt , US Xpress , Shnieder and a few others. I am really intrested in JBS also Martin , Crete and Conway TKL are high on my list and they have all been in contact with me. Crete pays well but thier trucks are so slow ...Still the pay looks pretty good if I can get the miles. Conway does Canada and Hazmat I am not sure I want to go that route. Martin and JBS are a toss up for me. Both have nice equipment and I can live with a truck that will do 65 ... E-Logs are new to me but that is what everyone is going to.. I like the fact that JBS hauls thier own frieght. Talking to the recruiter from Martin she asked me what does JBS offer that Martin does not. I have to go to Colorado for OR with JBS and Atlanta for Martin ...I thought it was a valid question and would like to hear what drivers for JBS think. I'm suppose to call Martin back tomorrow she wants to get me into Orientation a.s.a.p. ...JBS has my app and I have talked to the recruiter they are suppose to call me back this evening... Crete is working on my app. and Conway is also working on my app. alot of choices to make ...Does anyone know if JBS has a terminal in the S.E. ... I know there is a pilgrems pride in the next town over... And help would be appreciated...

I don't think I would mind going to Colorado for orientation it is such a pretty state. I have been through Viel pass and Donner pass and Monarch pass ... Monarch pass in the middle of winter now that one was kind of spooky ...lol...I remember my son being with me and he almost setting in my lap when we got to the top...lol... But it was a challenge and it is moments like that , That I miss ... I have drove Dry Box and Flat Bed and now I am thinking I would not mind trying to drive Reefer as it will be one more challenge and more thing to add to my resume. One day I want to conquer the Ice Roads of Alaska ....lol... j/k... I never thought when I left Swift I would miss driving over the road it is funny how fast no sleep , getting stuck in the middle of no where, Not knowing where you will sleep or if it is even legal to park there to spend the night , Getting loads that are almost impossible to deliver on time and making it on time... And dealing with all the hassles of driving and planning will grow on you... Sorry for the long post... But I would apprecaite any help or advise you can give me ...After all the day I quit learning is the day you will find me dead on the side of the road...

i live in nc. My recruiter said 95-98% of home time is not a problem. They also just opened a logistic office in ga. I looked at several co's and drove for one that was just about the load and getting it to its destination. Good luck with your journey.

    Awesome!!! :biggrin_25514:

I wish I could post some of the email threads between me and the Nigerian scammers I've played with over the past five years, but they are loaded with profanity and animal-human sexual innuendo. It's actually kinda fun, leading those morons on for several months. Almost got one of them to send me $700 to start the process because "I was broke".

    Fun, isn't it? :biggrin_25525:

rickp19950 I drover for Averitt for two years then went to Afghanstan (not as a driver) for a year came back they no longer had OTR out of OKC OK so I drover for First Express for a Year then went back to Afghanstan and now going to JBS. Overseas you make tons of money but the Bull you have to but up with doesn't make it worth it. I'll explain in orentation. To everyone else thanks for all the information on this blog.

Well just the thought of being in CO over GA in the summer all things being equal would sway my vote to JBS!!! Also, there are many loads that are not our own (which is a GOOD thing, keeps you moving). No terminal in SE but a BUNCH of Pilgrims. I'm not sure how Martin is but as you can see by the guys that post here we are pretty happy for the most part. Good luck...

Well one month in and I think I made the right move to come on board. My FM is great out of Hyrum she is on top of things . Something has came up this week and have to get home fm say no problem they will have a driver meet me at the house to relay the load. To me that says alot .

Wow that's alot of yard bird . I haven't got lucky enough to get a yard bird load. beef ,pork, and bananas is what I get mostly. Had to wait 6 hrs for the bananas today . I ended up going on line 5 to get to the truck stop.
