That's not a good comparison. I drive my car to work every day-it's not even close to the same thing.
I also understand that trucking isn't like most industries. But maybe if it was, it would actually attract more competent help and not so many "SMELLY SLOBS", "ding a lings" and "wimps".
Keep blaming the industry's inefficiencies and stupidity on "crybaby" drivers, all while you continue to spend uncompensated time using the tools that you pay for to be able to do your job, and nothing will change.
You might be a celadon driver! enjoy

I can't give you actual numbers, but at my best guess... using $5 worth of directory information time and my laptop, which I'd have with me anyway and pay the same for internet service, easily gained me 3-4 extra loads per month...
Average load of 500 miles, @ 36 cpm... multiplied by 3...($180 in mileage pay x 3) is an extra $540 a month...
Spending $5 and some ingenuity and ambition to make an extra $500? I don't think that's a bad investment at all... -

1) Who mentioned CRYBABY drivers in my post ?
2) I get well compensated for what I do as does the guys driving my trucks.
3) I MADE things change when I started my own outfit , my drivers get TREATED very well and make good $. -
I'm not a cry baby people. I got treated poorly by celadon from the start. and most people posting here. are most likely recruiters.
and it seems like the vaste majority of the post on this thread. are of 2 key things.
No body is going to make anything with a truck. that brakes down every week. costing you 3 days a week. and leaving you with a small $200. check. to take care of things with. I never once got any pay for being broke down. and in the 8 months i worked there. I lost 3 months time due to the truck braking down. and I was only home twice in 8 months. once for thanks giving. and once for Christmas. neither were for more then 5 days. the rest of the time. was spent making nothing. and having to make each and every penny count. and having to let thing go. like beable to eat square meals every day, only being able to take a shower twice a week. I had to pay for them. and when the truck was in the shop. they didn't bother to get me a hotel room. and there was never any room in the dorm. so while i set in the cafeteria. watching other drivers walk around with nice clothes, new laptops, high dollar i phones, and wireless internet. buy take out food. I had to set there in the cafeteria. seeing all this. being hungry. with out a dime in my pocket to eat for 3 days. I really wasn't jealous. more hungry then anything. and all i wanted! was a truck i could depend on. so i could make a little more money to eat and be clean period. That being said, IF celadon didn't want me working there. they should have told me that from the start. "I can live better knowing the truth. then being treated so poorly! that i quit." so if your a recruiter and your reading this. the underline section is for you. it saves allot of grief. and people respect people for being truthfully honest. -
Not a recruiter...google me, if you think otherwise.
-
another driver crying about how there co is treating them'
-
To the OP, I'm sure you had some input on how things got so bad.
But you say you got no miles and your truck was in the shop all the time, yet you had no time to take a shower or do laundry?? That doesn't make sense. -
If I was a RECRUITER this would be the last place I would be looking for potential recruits.
-
I'm not a recruiter either....but I'm real curious as to why you stayed there 8 months if things were that bad?

Must of done OK , has a PRESSURE COOKER to cook in the truck and thinking of moving to Australia from other postings he has made.
