The adventures of 'Team Klingon'

So far it has been worth it for us (in the most part). Things just fell into place for us. Gary out of work, MIL needing more care than we could give, Daughter/SIL needing a new place to raise our Grandkid(s)... so Gary (who use to drive O/O >20 yrs ago) did the research and chose Central. Would we do it again - yes - did we make the 'right' choice of companies - I think so. I don't think there is TOO much difference between 'start up' companies. They all have their good and bad points... and the turn over for all of them is quite high. The life style is VERY different from a 9-5 stay at home job!! Boy am I finding THAT out - LOL! Its not bad, just very different. However - we can live out of our truck. We don't HAVE to go 'home'. Right now - its basically our daughter's home. We just visit - LOL! If you have a 'home' that needs you there (wife, kids) it would be SO very hard... I have so much respect for the spouse at home and the driver away from home... I'm blessed that my 'home' is right now sitting in the seat next to me. Oh and our new truck is a white 2012 Freightliner...

 

I'm not sure if Central does referal bonuses for company drivers -but if you go lease, then yes there is a bonus... we gave my trainer's name as referal, and he got the bonus. We still talk and meet up - so next time we get together he said he would spot us dinner

 

You have my number now - feel free to call. If I don't answer its probably because I'm sleeping - I leave my phone in the cab (front room) so that I'm not tempted to answer when I should be sleeping - LOL!

 

Lets talk about yesterday evening... well it happened - our first (and hopefully LAST) 'accident'. No one was physically hurt, but our confidence sure was! Gary was backing into a 'tight' spot at a truck stop, I was on the ground w/my cell phone and we both had headsets on... things going a little tougher than usual (figured out later than the tandems were further up than CA standard - due to the weight of the trailer - so bigger tail swing) I told him to STOP but he didn't hear me because his headset had disconnected from the phone. We have been having trouble with his phone randomly rebooting - so not sure if that is what happened or not - but he didn't hear me say stop until I was screaming and opened up the passanger door yelling 'you hit the other truck!!' - sigh - needless to say our movie night didn't turn out as planned and the paperwork really sucks! The guy who's truck we removed the front fender of was such a wonderful person though... it really hit me and brought me to tears - as we were finishing up the exchange of info and saying goodbye - he grabbed our hands and said a quick prayer... Man did that bring me back to my priorities! Thank you Lord that no one was injured!! So now we have a $1500 deductable we have to pay (I'm sure the damage done to his truck will match or exceed that amount) and a 'defensive driving course' we have to go to. I say WE because although the company says 'Gary' as he was behind the wheel - we are a team, and it was both of us doing the backing. One thing we did do though, is got a hand held CB radio... we are no longer going to rely on cell phones!! Better late - than doing it again!!
