i'd like to read more of your current "situation" (supposedly you're unhireable), but in the meantime you might look at southern cal transport. Might have to run teams though.
I want to run east west on I 10/20/40/70.

The best way to find out more about freight is load boards. A few are free but most of the free are not too desirable and the rest have no rate information. The Ask An Owner Operator section of this forum is full of good information. Read all the docked threads in this section too. If you search and read on this forum, you will be amazed at the information available.
A paid subscription to a load board or two will be the best way. If you are going to lease, this will be good information but not great. This is because what you can choose from will be what the company has. If you are going to run your own authority it will be much more valuable.
The fact of the matter is you will have to run the lanes that offer the rates. This can vary greatly based on company, lanes, time of year and trailer type. It is mandatory to research and make good decisions. Still, once you are operational, it will be a constant decision process to maximize revenue and insure continued success.

I run a lot between Albuquerque and Ft. Worth running trailers between the General Mills plant in ABQ, the warehouse in Roanoke, TX and the Walmart DC in Los Lunas, NM. A weeks worth of that is an easy 3300 miles a week.

You guys can run any place you choose, just don't do it in front of my truck. Do you have any idea how much Beacon charges to wash Runner's Guts out of my radiator?

LOLLERZ!!!!
Yep I can drive them big trucks good!

Yea thats kind of what I was thinking too. Thats the only way I could see having an inside look at what I need to find. Do these subscriptions usually include info like the shipper, cosignee, rate, declared miles and what not? And would I be able to take a look at freight all over the country? Ive never really been clear on how big load boards are or how expansive. Always seen them in the TA's but they'd rip you off for the shirt on your back if they could so never thought too much about them.
As for the lease or authority, this I do not know yet. I dont have the proper understanding of all of this just yet so more and more research. Id much prefer to run my own authority and be in total control. I dont mind the extra risk. Id rather run my ship on my own.
I have been through the some of the other threads and am still amazed at how much I am able to learn from this! Its some great reading!!! I appreciate the info John! Im going to have to look into subscribing to one of these load boards to see whats out there. An extra $30/mo or so seems worth it for what I think I could learn. -
It took me a whole day of searching load boards but I found two or three free ones that gave me a feel for available freight. I called several Landstar agents and got rates from them for some loads too. I'm not quite ready to buy a subscription yet. -
Yea its hard to find credible sources on the net with so much info out there. And a lot of load boards make it sound peachy on the title screen. The only reason I would subscribe would be due to having no other options I can see.
I will have to do a search on loadboards soon enough. Im mainly sticking to this site to learn what I can from the front lines mainly. Theres enough info here to really get lost in!
