After giving road tests every week to "experienced" drivers I think every company should do a road test. I see some stupid stuff every week. If it were my company I'd be more worried about the big accident(s) that are going to end us than I would about the easy money I could make by hiring folks that don't know what they are doing.

Isn't that amazing! Or is it just sad? Just for the fun of it while unloading, I called 3 OTR companies out of a truck stop junk employment magazine (Swift, Crete and Schneider). Not one of them said that my 20+ years of local driving would qualify for them to do OTR without attending one of their courses.

And starting out with them would put my yearly salary between 1/4 to 1/3 of what I make now. I won't even begin to you tell the cut in benefits I would take. And I don't think I would be able to work Mon-Fri with weekends off. Oh and personal expenses, fee time and just sitting and waiting should be enough to make people ster clear.

I can see why most of these compaies need to keep advertising and hiring. Who would want to work for a company like that?

I don't know how most do it. Sorry but id did make for a nice little laugh. Not for the recruiters though.

Thanks Stranger- I've been trying to tell EVERYBODY just what you're sayin here. Man I'm sorry it's that way. Nobody wants experience, they all want cheap labor. I know my days are numbered like everyone else's in this Biz, I figure I'll be around until my last truck payment.

I'm keeping an eye on jobs overseas, just in case, but I'm gonna miss driving North Amerika...

i'll get back to you after my shift, but in the meantime please describe your situation in great detail---why do you feel you are "unhireable" etc.

That's exactly right. That's why myself and a few others have been trying to tell these new drivers to get out from the computer and go seek out a company to work for. Go face to face so you can have an idea on how their operations run. Get away from the masses and the mega carriers.

Well when I move to Columbia, TN in September or October I should be able to find something. There is just not enough freight down here in the #####-end of redneck hell to have choices.

Powell-Peralta, the biggest reason I get is the fact that the only entry on my DAC is from 2001. None of the companies I worked for up to 06 used DAC, or failed to report anything. Seems having nothing is nearly as bad as having bad reports. :biggrin_2552:

Not a month ago I got to drive a new Cascadia with an 18 in it. One of my old employers called me up to show it off. It is his second Cascadia, and I got to drive it about 100 miles and deliver a load while his normal driver took his 34. Prior to that I had not driven anything bigger than a Grand Marquis for round 5 years. He had no problems with it, and I had no problems. So I know when I move I will be back on the road.:biggrin_255:

Trucking is heading towards regulation again if these companies dont clean up their act. A series of really bad accidents is all that is between the current status and re-regulation. Keep putting "drivers" in those seats and it will happen. If you can't learn to shift you own #### gears, you dont belong in a truck. :biggrin_25516:
