Proof? I don't have to prove anything, I could care less whether you believe what I say or not. I know what went on in these 2 instances. As for the research I was talking about any companies that are considered OTR being Union.
500 miles away? Simple, the driver would join the local nearest his home. As for my plan to organize OTR drivers, I don't really have one, because I don't plan on organizing any drivers. I said it could be done, that seems to be the issue with your comprehension.

So you take his word, without proof, over mine? Not saying it was not a pension thing, but it has always been my understanding that ST had customers that would only ship and recieve Union trucks.
Long haul 3 or 4 days out? Not sure who you were talking to, but I don't ever recall "long haul" being 3 or 4 days out. One company I drove for, and we ran team, would turn the west coast in 5 or 6 day's, depending on the loads. Haul textiles out, and garbage (produce to you younguns) back. Even running up and down the east coast was generally 5 days. Now if you are talking about before I started driving, back in the 50's long haul was even longer, seeing as you did not have the highways we have today. My grandpa was gone for a week and a half at the time back then.
Yea, I am sure they were not "peppered", I drove for Terminal, and still had a lot of friends there. The pay and benefits package that the IBT got them was not as good as what Isenhour offered them. You could say that Isenhour coerced them, but he did so with better pay and benefits, not firing. I also knew a few guys at Cardinal, who claimed that they got a bum deal from the IBT. The IBT is a long way from perfect.
The problem with the IBT, and also the problem with trucking today, in my opinion, is the "me,me,me" mentality.
I questioned your reference to it not taking skill to be a truck driver. -

You did not "live" in the truck back then because there was not enough room in the truck. 3 to 4 days out sounds like running from NY to NC and back.

right, i have seen those sleepers. and i have slept in a little tiny coffin sleeper on the back of a pete, they look really nice, but they suck to have to use!

Forgetting about the board laid across the seats to make a bed are we? Heck, I've done a version of that.

Another one from the "right to work for less" states...And so it goes, on and on and on...
