These folk were heroes every bit as much as those involved in the rescue, and they deserve to be treated with more respect.

 

I agree! Wonder if there is anything we can do? If enough ppl stand up something will be done...

 

I just got done reading that myself. The lawyers will ALWAYS get their cut...whether you see a dime or not. Personally, I think their "cut" ought to include any and all "unitemized legal expenses" as well as the "referral fee" to the lawyer who sent the business their way. After all, if not for the referral, they wouldn't have had your business. Why should YOU have to pay that referral fee from YOUR cut?

As for the "liens", that is somewhat typical. If you have insurance, and your insurance policy pays you immediately following a loss to help get your life put back together, they will then go after whoever is at fault to recover what they paid out. Any settlement you receive from the "at fault" party will be lessened by what you have already received from your own insurance company, as they will want that money back.

All that $0 check tells me is that the lawyers didn't do the job they were hired to do, because all of these fees and liens should have been taken into consideration prior to accepting the deal. But what do they care? They got paid.

Kinda sad when you can't even trust your own lawyer....

 

Its a shame that lawyers ever got involved in the first place. These guys were basically injured while on duty and as such there should have been some automatic payout for all involved.
