If anything, apply for a loan and go to a community college driving school.. When you have CDL in hand, apply to a local company.

Did you get a DOT physical?

That's the only flag I see. Type 1 diabete's is a disqualification unless it's under control and you get a medical waiver from the DOT. Most companies will avoid you unless you have your medical card and waiver in hand. Type 2 just has to be under control.

High blood pressure will get you too. You have to be below 140/90. If diagnosed with it, you should be on meds and have it under control.

I would make sure you can have that medical card in hand first. You can go to a walk-in clinic and get a DOT physical for about $40. Walk-in clinics are the cheapest.

Then when you pass that obstacle, do like hotrod says and get your license through a community college. Community colleges have student loans and even grants. Then you don't owe any trucking company and have more places you can apply.

They won't turn you away with the credentials in hand.

PAM/Driver Solutions turned me down because I already had a CDL/medical card in hand, lol.

Thank you all for your responses.
I did get the "better qualified applicants" reason from Steven's. I can't get to a person or email response from either company.
I don't do drugs, alcohol, or have any tickets or arrests other than the one mentioned above. I don't have children. I even have a useless 4year college degree.

How does one get the on the road experience that all companies want from a new hire from a community college course?

I misread your first post. Use to have....

Don't volunteer information. Only tell the bare minimum of what is asked. Steven's is being picky and I'm sure there is worst qualified being hired.

There's companies out there that don't do the CDL schooling but they do the road training. They ain't any better or worst than the puppy mills, but Hirschbach just started taking graduates. I only tell the desperate, lol. I bet you can get on with them if you want to get your foot in the door. That's after you have your CDL. Put 6-12 months in and then find a better job. Really any place you go, the first year is rough financially.
Even check Swift and USXpress hires out of TX. There's a bunch that does.

    High blood pressure, and diabetes...
    potential risk, disqualified...
Best advice has been given, community school, or another school that you pay for, with grants, state loans, federal loans... then go to a finishing company.

Big Motor Carriers are harvesting the intended Maximum Benefit of the artificially created driver shortage. If they keep this up, we will all need Master's degrees to drive trucks.

Lean and hungry, that's how they like 'em.

My 4 year degree ain't crap either so I know how you feel. Check out central refrigerated they train for free but you have to work for them for 12 month not to bad if your just looking to get your feet in the door. Paid training also. Make the best of it.
