Ironpony speaks the truth. I'll let you have the road. Can't speak for the other idiots in their SUVs that seem to think that they can drive just because they are driving an SUV.

Place to avoid: Sand Springs, OK (Hwy 412). The west side of SS is a MESS. ODOT doesn't think they have to sand it. SS doesn't think they have to sand it. BIG MESS for way longer than it needs to be. I think the Tulsa crews do a better job on the east side. Hwy 412 (headed west) becomes the Cimarron Turnpike, and is basically your fast shot over to I-35 from the northern part of the state. Headed east it becomes some other turnpike that doesn't have people in its tollbooths. Do yourself a favor. HAVE THE CHANGE. There is also no guarantee the bill changer will work at this particular gate. This one exits OK at about Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

Thanks for the comments guys and gals.

Today was a long day. Drove from Springfield, now at Lodi Ohio. Did about 750 miles today with another 700 tomorrow to our destination.

Today was a pretty good day. For the most part it was relitively uneventful. We hit some real bad weather when we got into Ohio, was pouring rain on top of the construction. My instructor took over near the end to get us to the Pilot in Columbus as I was a bit scared. :biggrin_25524:

We got to the Pilot in Columbus and my parents came up to see us and meet my instructor. They spent time with us while we ate, it was nice to see them after not seeing them for the past 3 weeks. They were excited to see the truck and meet my instructor, plus learn a bit more about Prime in general from him and myself.

After that I did another 100 miles and we are currently sitting at a Loves in Lodi Ohio. We got fuel and some much needed showers and now just relaxing a bit before we go to bed.

I'm excited for tomorrow to get rid of this load, it's been tough and we've really had to work our times well to get it done in time. Our drop time is Sunday morning at 7am. Then off to who knows where.

    Stay safe everyone.

Gator - Sorry I haven't been answering your calls, you seem to call when I'm driving. Send me a text with how everything's doing when you get a chance.

Well the load is finally delivered and we are currently sitting in a TA in New Hampshire for our 34 reset.

Yesterday was a pretty rough day for my instructor and I as we ran real hard to get to our drop point.

We went through Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire to get to our final point. All in one day. We finally got there around 3am, got a couple hours of sleep. Unloaded at 7am then came to this TA for the reset.

The day wasn't that bad. The roads were very hilly so it was a mix of terrifying and exciting driving on them. While a bit scary, great roads to get used to driving a big rig.

Though because of the weight of our load, we did struggle on some hills. Going 30mph up hill in the right lane is a bit annoying. :yes2557:

Overall, we made our drop finally and get a much needed chance to relax. I'm pretty happy with how I'm doing, just seem to get better and better each day as I move on.

Seebs, that's awesome! Get some rest and write up a journal somewhere. You'll probably be thankful later.

Great pics! What an awesome view. Driving through OK right now, I think all you seen is brown grass and more brown grass. Water from the sky, please?

Hello everyone I am planning on applying for PRIME pretty soon here.

Just had a couple quick questions i'm sure one of you could answer.
I have read most of SEEBs posts (thanks by the way it was nice to get a day by day breakdown of someone who went through the program recently.)

I am taking my CDL learners permit today right after i get my medical card from my doctor, I also informed my current employer that i will be leaving soon and would like to help them find someone to replace me...
so my biggest question is when should i fill out the app for prime? If they decide to ship me out there to Springfield do I have any say when? should i quit my job completely before i even apply? or apply now and state that i wont be available for a couple of weeks?

secondly, after reading all these threads im just super paranoid about being shipped out there and being cut from the program for some reason....I cant imagine why i would be im just nervous....
I have had 0 experience driving big rigs but I am a quick learner and have been studying the Utah CDL driving manual. Is there ANYTHING i can do to prepare any further? I want to be as prepared as possible, so me quitting my job and taking the risk going out there won't be a complete wash.

    Thanks a lot!
