Any real answer about gun carry?

Yes, that is one of the deciding factors. I've never been bodily searched, but I guess the option is there. So, I just don't attempt to carry. I wonder how bad it would go for me if I lied, then was searched, and weapon was found? At the least I'd be turned around, and rightly so, it's the law in Ontario, and if you're going there, be legal, whether you agree with it or not.
Looks like I'm wrong about carrying in a CMV, I'm glad I'm wrong, but sometimes it could be a hassle I really don't need. No one has ever said a word about the 24oz straight claw hammer next to my seat, well, it is only used to thump my tires ya know.
Even it is legal, which it appears to be, I'm just not smart enough, or have the inclination to know all the state and local laws regarding firearms. So, I take the easy way out of the problem. Now, in my POV, you better believe that I carry, when I feel like it, then again I'm not going anywhere it might become a problem. I just have no need to go to the states that are that afraid of their own citizens, and I guess that includes at least Ontario, I don't know about the rest of Canada.

 

Folks, thanks for the comments- when I was a city cop the world was different. Texas was a redneck zoo. This was way back in the 80's. I never manhandled anyone without just cause, and our department was pretty professional.

As a driver, I can understand both sides- personally, it would be nice if we all could carry without any hassles. The world would be a safer calmer, more respectful place.

These days you have to fly below the Homeland You-Know-What agency's radar. If you get in the wrong circumstances or make a bad decision wearing a firearm and alert their system, you're SCREWED.

Currently, our Constitution is in a state of indefinite suspension as per the Patriot Act. It's the wrong time to make political statements about rights we USED to have. Fight it all you want- shout and scream, Uncle Slam doesn't care, he's got his own ideas- and they're not what you want.

 

Let me give you a run down of what takes place when you shoot someone even though you may consider it justified.

1. Police arrive and immediately secure the scene. That
means they will secure your firearm, hand cuff you, put you in the
squad car and take you to the nearest station for booking. This is
SOP anytime there is a shooting. Makes no difference who's at
fault. They don't care if it was justified. They are following
procedures.

2. You will need your lawyer. Your lawyer will go with you
to your court pre-hearing. Minimum charge to you by your lawyer
will start around $5000.00. Don't forget bail. They won't.

3. The court will decide if you are guilty or innocent.

4. Ok. The court finds you innocent. Great.

5. Now the fun starts. The person you shot, if they are still alive, will
have an attorney and will immediately file a lawsuit against you.
But lets say the person you shot is dead. Won't be filing the suit
against you. The family will. The spouse. The kids. The mother.
The father. The brothers. The sisters. The cousins. They will come
out of the woodwork like roaches. Having fun yet!

6. Now you need your lawyer again because you are going to court.
This is going to cost you just about everything you own. The
lawyers fees and the court cost will make your head swim. Even
if you win, you will use up your savings, your home, your car
everything to pay for all this. But remember.....even though
it took everything you own to defend yourself, it was justified.

 

Why do truckers always talk about "going to court", although most have never even seen a real live lawyer in person!?

I guess the easy way to look at it from my perspective is that if you're stupid enough to get into an argument that turns into a firearms exchange, in the middle of a shopping mall, then you DESERVE to go to jail.

 

And, by the way, fellow Texan, not trying to hack on you, but just for the sake of discussion, are you coming up with all of that info from your years in law enforcement, or time as an attorney, or time listening to the supertruckers at the truckstop buffet?

All of this false info BS really has to stop.... and on this subject, especially, there's a BUNCH of unfounded opinions and chicken little/sky is falling stories.

 

A good many states have laws these days that make one immune to "civil prosecution" if the court rules it a justified shooting...geez people, educate yourselves.

I've covered all this on here at least 50 times, if not more...

Same ole repetitive nonsense brought up by folks who only know what they heard somebody else say...it never ends.

 

No one in this country is immune to civil prosecution! So the court rules it is justified. That does keep you from being sued. It happens all the time. For fifty bucks I can get my lawyer sue your ### off. It will cost you a fortunate to defend yourself.

 

You can't carry a weapon in a commercial truck that crosses state lines. Each state has diffrent regultions. I bet if you ask any DOT officer they will tell you no way no how.

 

My husband said " No commercial driver" of a semi 18 wheeler is allowed to carry any weapons in his truck. He has been driving 21 years. Don't worry about your safety. Just go to well known truck stops, and well lit areas and don't act "lost" when you enter and exit these places. Keep your truck locked 24/7 and don't forget to lock your trailer doors all the time either.
