All joking aside, being a recruiter would have to be pretty stressful, not to mention, I have spent some time in the office in Marshfield... It is not what I would call a "happy" place to be. I think most of the people there are afraid that they will be fired tommorrow. Everyone is scared to make a decision for themselves. I would hate to have to work in that every day. I am not saying being on the road is not stressful, it is just different. I wish him lots of luck back on the road.

I also couldn't be a dispatcher/fm, or whatever they want to call themselves. When I was local I broke my hand and was on light duty for six weeks. I was a pastor at the time so light duty consisted of doing a few odds and ends and sitting at a desk in dispatch preparing lessons and sermons. Long story short I got to watch the dispatch end of things in a trucking company. There are about 10% to 20% of drivers that I would want to reach through the phone and strangle them. I'm not talking difficult personalities, I'm talking about airheads that don't do their job and then wonder why dispatch is upset. Things like taking a six hundred mile load with only six hours left on their seventy. In one case a driver showed up continually late and when the dispatcher told him he would get written up the next time, the guy walked off the job.

I have spent two days in dispatch, and there is no way I could do that job. I agree some of the drivers out there need a hand holder, not a FM. It is crazy that they don't do there job, and then wonder why they get fired or wrote up.

One guy spent so much time in dispatch complaining about not having hours that he could have delivered his load and been back in the time he spent driving to the terminal and complaining.

You have to love guys like that... I have had students like that, they are frustrating to be sure. It is hard to get through to them, they have there mind made up that they can't do something, so that is it. Once you get them to stop and look at the whole picture that can help sometimes. The problem is just getting them to slow down, and take another look at things. I guess we all get tunnel vision sometimes.

some guys go nuts for sure but you know some have valid issues. A lot of them don't take them up the right way tho.

That is true, alot of them fly off the handle before they cool down and think things through. All I have to say for that is, it almost always ends badly... Anyway this is supposed to be about L/O and O/O, not hotheads... Be good, and keep the dirty side down!!!

I always try to follow the old preacher's line like preachin'- Start slow and talk low, then rise higher and catch fire. The first message is always calm, but the longer you ignore me or give me excuses, the more "intense" my tone and messages become.
