We have 9% unemployment. There is a surplus of bodies. How can there be a shortage? There is certainly a surplus of nonsense here.

This so-called driver shortage is caused by those who complain about it the most.

There is a shortage of drivers willing to work for the chump change the ATA member carriers want to pay.

There is a shortage of drivers willing to sit around at truck stops all the time so the big mega-fleets can have idle trucks ready to go the minute one of their preferred customers has a "hot load" to pick up, or in case they need to re-power a load to get it delivered on time.

There is a shortage of drivers willing to spend weeks at a time away from home while their kids grow up virtually fatherless.

There is a shortage of drivers who are considered hire-able due to their own practices of filling drivers DAC reports full of false or misleading information when they quit, so they can't work for anyone else. ("If I can't have him, nobody else will!")

There is a shortage of drivers willing to deal with constantly being stuck between customer demands and DOT regulations. We are drivers, not customer service reps.

There is a shortage of drivers willing to play the role of a patsy and whipping boy who takes the blame for everyone else's mistakes.

All of these trucking companies who want to cry about a driver shortage and wonder why they can't keep drivers in their trucks need to look no further than their own practices to find the answer!

(ok, I'm done with my little rant, .... for now!)
