These threads are loaded with information and names of companies you might call, if nobody offers any company names:

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucking-jobs/38092-great-jobs-in-texas.html

Much of the information is about driving jobs. Still it will give you an idea what you are getting into. In addition, many of these companies may lease trucks or have information on who does. The big problem may be the amount of time you wait to be paid.

Make sure what ever company you eventually sign up with has housing available, or a truck with a sleeper. Housing up there right now is extremely scarce and if you do find something, the cost will make you think your renting something in the richest part of Beverly Hills. Stuff that rented for $200 a month 4-5 years ago, is now renting for $2500 to $3000. and its in some little podunk town with 1 stoplight, 1 grocery store, and 1-2 bars.

I was born and raised in ND, so I do know what the area that you will be working in is like. Some of the most rural and desolate places on Gods green earth. The only plus side is some of the best hunting and fishing in the world. I really miss walleye fishing.

He has his own truck so the housing shouldn't be a problem. For others that don't, the sleeper usually isn't an option as another driver takes the truck when you get out.

There is a lot to know before you jump into this. Road tractors are not the best choice for this work. This work will chew them up and spit them out just like it does OTR drivers.

I have worked in logging, sawmills, farming and trucking. In addition, I have lived in Montana and I trucked the Northwest, three times a month, for three years. Even with all that, I had no idea how brutal this work was until doing some reading. Then I begin to form a mental picture. I have read every post in every thread I suggested. The education alone is worth the reading.

Imagine being winched onto a site by a Cat in knee deep mud. Each time you do this you wade the mud to pull the cable and hook your truck. Or how about chaining and unchaining several times a day. You do this because the main road is clear but the secondary roads aren't.

If I took my truck up there, I'd never expect to be able to put it back on the highway.

I have a friend who has a friend who just went to the oil fields to work. He's renting a very small trailer that's parked in the back yard of some resident. I can't remember what the cost is but he's paying A LOT to rent the trailer and A LOT to park in someones back yard.

He also has more then an hour commute from where he lives. They are spreading out to 100 miles in some cases to get housing and still paying big.
