I am out with my trainer, and he is on a dedicated 100% hand unload account. That's right, I said 100% hand unload. He touches every piece that comes off that truck.
We have 3 stops, about 6-8 pallets a stop, and a whole bunch of clothes that are hanging on bars that need to be unloaded. I takes about 30mins at each stop to unload. He gets paid by the company for each stop for unloading.
It is NOT hard work, in fact, it is easy, and he gets paid for it. I wouldn't mind having this account after I put in some otr time. He gets paid great, the work is not hard, and he GETS HOME EVERY NIGHT!
Looking around at the truck stops, it seems some drivers NEED more hand unloading, but most of them wouldn't be able to do it.
Schneider National... The new drivers savior.

No they do not have their own school to get your CDL, used to but not anymore. They offer tuition reimbursement, they pay $150 a month around the 15th to your loan holder up to like $4000. As far as taking your truck home, it's really a toss up with who you're DBL is. I live within a half hour from a drop yard but they still let me take my truck home, however I have heard some people are much closer/further and still can't do it.

If they would just get a color scheme makeover they would be pretty close to perfect. That orange just hurts!
-
They aren't buying the orange trucks anymore!
All the new ones I have seen are either white and black or black and orange.
They said the re-sale value on the orange sucks so they are making a change.

Are all Schneider trucks autos?
-
No. Hardly any are. Not sure about the brand new ones.
-
They are still buying orange. The cascadias are orange. The columbias are orange. The white ones many times go to dedicated accounts(some customers have requested them) The black used to be regional, and some dedicated. They have no trouble at all selling used trucks. The resale value sucks because they are beat to death when they sell them, but they still are able to sell.

Well my decision is made. Have been in law enforcement and am losing my job due to lay off's. Have wanted to drive trucks for a long time just never did. Now's my chance. I've been debating companies and everything is pointing towards the big pumpkin. Your post made my final decision. Hard to find positive things about the companies especially if youre new to the industry.thanks again
