Not griping, I could care less about 7/7 or 7/3-7/4 because I drive full-time at Averitt now and that's what I'm asking about with Roehl from folks here that supposedly drive for them. Just wondering too why some think it's the closest thing to heaven is all. Course it's whatever a person wants I guess.

Take it from one who drives for them, it is not close to heaven. Although, I have been dispatched out of Ellenwood Ga. for 5 months and it IS heaven compared to the Gary Ind. facility. I can honestly say that I enjoy working for this company since being associated with the Ellenwood group. There are still bad days and good days, but the good far outweigh the bad. If you are working from Gary, it will take much in the way of intestinal fortitude to stay with Roehl. Since switching to the Ellenwood facility my miles have drastically improved and the people there genuinely try to help drivers with any problems that may arise. .

I will be starting at Roehl in September. I live in San Antonio,Tx; so I would have to assume that Ellenwood would have to be my home terminal. That being said, will I be assigned one lead dispatcher who's job it is to keep me rolling or is it a team effort, no one person in charge. I have read that Rodney can't figure out where his own backside is with a pair of mirrors. Do I get to choose my own lead dispatcher?

Oh yeah... and are there any hot ladies out there on the road? Lizards excluded, of course.

If you are running national, you could be dispatched from anywhere. If you are running southeast regional you may or may not be dispatched from Ellenwood Ga. You dont get to pick your Driver Service Rep but if you find after a while that things arent going to work out you can request a change.
Rodney is fine, by the way. The problem with any DSR is that they have way too many drivers to watch after. In my experience, when new people are hired to DSR positions, they start with fewer drivers so they can get up to speed. The problems arise when they are given 40 plus drivers to work with and then freight gets slow, or any number of things that can go wrong. They are not out to get any one person, and yes, they do try to accomodate each call they get. But, on any given day, it may seem that you are being placed on the back burner. Know that if you feel you are there, then there are probably 30 more there with you. You would do very well to request Ellenwood. I have been dispatched out of Gary, In. and there is a big, big difference between the two. You WILL like the people in Ellenwood, maybe not in Gary.
I hope this is helpful. I took me a year to figure this out. I guess I am not too bright but once the light goes on it is bright for a while.

Something for everyone at Roehl, USMC. I'm there specifically for 7/7, and am pleased with it. You are correct that earnings calculated on a per week basis are slim, and cost of insurance for a couple is much more than 25 bucks a week. I personally don't spend a lot while on the road. My cooler, lunchbox and coffeemaker work just fine, and I eat good food.

The 7/7 plan is great for older drivers, semi retired, and I even know a few who have small businesses that they work with their spouse. While 7/7 or 7/4-7/3 may have no appeal to you for myriad reasons, not everyone wants or needs to run hard day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. I credit Roehl with being innovative and flexible with their approach to work schedules. it brought me to their door, and I'm for the most part quite pleased.

I am miffed by folks that say this. If you COULD care less, that means that you actually have some care. Do you mean you could NOT care less? Just wondering...

Thanks to all of your posts, I have decided to join Roehl. I'm currently attending a driving school in LA, and will report to orientation on Aug 29 in Glenwood, GA. After reading a lot of posts in this forum, I'm impressed that they are sending me a plane ticket, and not a bus ticket. So far, so good.

Congrats!! I hope everything goes well for you. Remember to be patient and give yourself several months to adjust. You will do fine. Learn something new each day and enjoy the ride.

Thanks HomeBoy. I'm a Navy vet who has been off of active duty for quite a while, but I decided to go with the Honor program even without the GI Bill. Even if I could make more earning cpm, I just thought it was great way to get into driving without the stress over how many miles I'm driving. It allows me to focus entirely on learning what I need to know.
