Four feet as far as I knew. Any more requires a flag.
-
(A disclaimer here -- I'm not a driver, let along a flatbedder, so don't put much weight on what I say... but I think you should read Nuthinspecial's post. I, for one, certainly wasn't aware of the mess an inch or two could cause!) -
I'm sure you've heard "an inch is as good as a mile".
Generally it is 4' and then a permit may or may not be required after 4' Depends on the state. -
Here where I live and run, NC, it's not much of an issue. I have loads from time to time that are over 2 or 3 feet and the DOT don't even hardly look. The log haulers are the ones that they will get jiggy with but some of those pull loads 6-8 feet out the back or more.

That would be 4 feet off the back of a 48' flatbed or stepdeck. Can't have overhang on a 53'.
-
For most any thing you can get a permit. -
Thanks I believe I will be pulling a 53' and 48' flat at my new job and could not remember its been awhile since I have strapped down anything thats not on a pallet.

It's 3 feet in California, then after you have to flag or light it at night. But I've had 18 foot overhang in the past with no problems. Just watched for the tail end swing on turns.
