okay so i dont have a an accident but i think its more of why in 5 weeks of training I noticed that alot of times you experiance 4 wheelers coming on the freeway distracted by a map, their phone, or just day dreaming and dont see you, I guess this is more of advise to let em have the big horns and wake em up you can appoligize to your co driver after I'm sure they'll understand lol
now you see me now you dont

Be mindful you may also freak out that driver, or another, and make the situation worse...Watch all ramps as you approach them and be the one to make the preventative maneuver assuming the person is distracted...

Not a good idea...take the high road. JMHO

Great advice walstib and ongb!

Another thing to consder as well, if your company's logo is all over the truck (including phone number), your company will probably be getting a phone call complaining about you. Too many of those and you'd be looking for another driver's seat.
Four wheelers will always be four-wheelers. That's why it's up to us to be responsable and attentive.
My guess is, if there was a website forum 30 years ago, the same complaints that truck drivers had about 4-wheelers back then still apply today(not paying attention, changing speeds, swerving in-and-out of traffic, etc.) Only difference is there are a lot more truck and a whole lot more 4-wheelers out there today.
Although, I do miss kids giving us the "blow your horn" sign. They just don't do these days. -
Got to blow the horns for the kids as long as no ones in to close or railroad crossings-blow the horns at crossings and everybody hits the brakes!
flood, kid_cardiac and KinardTrucking Thank this. -
now thats funny
-
I will assume that you've blown your horns at crossing before it must be funny, and i agree about watching the on ramps but you know some states that have those real short ones that dont give alot of view for traffic coming on esspecially at night lol I'll always do my best to be safe dont really want this to be my last trucking job got plans for the future
KinardTrucking Thanks this. -
I remember as a kid sitting in the back of the stationwagon just waiting for trucks to pass so we could give the "horn-sign." We would always try and be as discreet as possible so it would scare my dad.

I would suggest, rather than "waking 'em up with the big horns," how about a friendly little toot-toot on the city horn instead? It gets their attention just as effectively and doesn't scare the crap out of that grandma on your left, causing her to swerve into your truck.

That's funny I used to do the same thing, except for the station wagon part. My son which is 8 gives the "horn sign" to every truck we pass, but rarely does anybody ever honk. If you don't honk your a redneck trucker he says.
