If you are going to a private school and you have done your research and narrowed your list of trucking companies down to 2 or 3, should you contact the recruiters before, after, or during school?
When should you contact recruiter

During, that way you can fill out apps, and the companies you're interested in can start processing them (running your DAC and MVR, etc).

As soon as possible. I contacted Roehl about halfway through an 8 week course so that I could be ready to roll and all background stuff done as soon as I was finished. And that is exactly how it happened! I started 2 days after I got my CDL. Good luck and God bless!

Thanks for asking this question as it was on my mind too. I start at a Vo-Tech school Aug 13th and was wondering how it worked.
...and of course, thanks to those who responded.

May Trucking did all of the stuff over the phone on me but we had to redo all of it in orentation.
It was a pain in the butt but good thing I brought all of my tax info with me.
I needed a work verification faxed to them for my last job that covered the last 7 months. The company that I was working for was trying to say we will fax it next week and I told them next week I'll be at home because I would of lost the oppertunity to work for the company.
They faxed it to the company in a couple of hours after a few choice words with them including if I get sent home due to the not having the verification sent I would come after them for lost work/pay.
Good tip for anywere you choose is.
Even if you think that everything is done make sure you bring all employment info including tax records etc with you for orentation you will need it all. You must also have the current phone numbers. -
Thanks for the reply guys. I know that recruiters come to the school that I'm going to but from what I hear most of them are at the bottom of the list.

And if some of the 'bottom of the list' ask for you DL # and SSN, I'd say, "Thanks, but no thanks!". I'd be afraid they'd try to spike my DAC before I got out of school
You should be a prime candidate with your school's credentials. But I'd still talk to them anyway, so you can pick up on negotiating skills for the 'real' interviews. Averages and ranges of other company pay rates and benefits are always good statistics to have in fine-art negotiations which can mean thousands of dollars difference. Remember, EVERYTHING is negotiable!
