Turning down loads!!! You hit the nail on the head right there. If you get put into the category of a cry baby of course your not going to get any loads or any miles. Why would a dispatcher offer you a good load if all you did was ##### about the last three loads because you want to sit around in the truck stop.

I total agree with ya Dirtroadchild my husband and i are soooo very happy with our lease with AEL, weren't to happy with Central Hauling, dispatcher and Anthony kept giving us the run around about loads, So we which to Conway and love it. In the last 2wks we have ran 6600 miles and thats just as a single driver I don't drive. CalArk is a great company but at Conway they REALLY care about their drivers. As O/O with Conway we make .93 amile get .03 more for hazmat and also get .05 more if you run the NorthEast states. my husband has only been with Conway since Aug. 1st and most of our loads have been under 22000 but we've had afew heavy loads. At conway you do have to have your hazmat endorsement and they like you to have your passport but it's not required as an O/O because you can turn down loads. It's alot of little things that Conway does for there drivers that I like, at they're terminals they have very clean showers along with fresh clean towels, smoking and non smoking lounges, a huge gym in the basement, a cafeteria, and at joplin they have a shuttles service. Most of the time they have preplans ready for you before you get to where you're delivering, and the best thing they have yard fuel which is around .15-.20 cents cheaper then the truck stops, and you can fuel at certain freight yards and when you do that it only comes out once amth, the rest of the time your fuel comes out once awk. Also you get your choice of percentage pay, for ex. any load you do before Tuesday you get paid for that friday 100% if they have the paperwork if they havnt gotten the paperwork you only get 75% that week and then you get the 25% the following week, it sounds crazy but it's awesome .The only thing so far I have found i dont like is the terminals dont have kennels but it's ok because most of the time the dogs stay in the truck.

WOW! 0.93 CPM plus FSC that must be about 1.30 - 1.40 CPM. There is certainly no margin for profit there. If you can make it on that you certainly deserve success. I certainly hope they can keep the miles coming because chasing miles is the only way to make it for such a low rate. You should look into some percentage leases.

We're very happy with our lease, for us it was the way to go. We didn't have any down payment and we don't have the greatest credit. Also they handle our maintenance on our truck though our escrow, so we don't have to worry about paying out of pocket. When we ran we bring home around 800-1000 awk which is fine for us. My husband is the only that drives and I ride with him. We dont have bills except for storage and phone so we make due for now with what we bring home.

I'm glad you're happy. You just need to realize that isn't a good money or a good deal.

It is that reasoning that we have no other expenses and they take care of this or that that causes owners to work for less than they should. And then when they do that, it drives down rates for all of us.

At the very least it isn't prudent to be singing praise for something like this. Then to praise a place you have only been at for two weeks is very misleading to newbies. You're still on the honeymoon. Come back in six months and update us.

You speak of $800 - $1000 per week and running 3300 miles. At $1,000 for 3300 miles that is 0.303 CPM. Not a decent pay rate for an owner/operator. Then you speak of take home pay. As an independent contractor, 20 - 30% of that goes to taxes. You are saving for and making your quarterly tax payments, right?

I'm not trying to be a jerk but it is obvious you are not real experienced with this type of operation. With all due respect, if you were you wouldn't be praising something that most of us wouldn't consider as acceptable.

If it works for them then it is a good deal. If dosent work for you then that means it would not be a good deal for YOU right? Whatever floats your boat... Also, they didnt say they had only been there for 2 weeks, they used the last 2 weeks as an example.

I can understand how it effects the entire industry as you say however there is alot bigger effect on the rates in the industry from the mass companies (swift, werner, ect.) who come in and cut the rates. That is where the main problem with the rates being so low is coming from not the lease deals. Also, allot of smaller companies and independents are running broker freight when the majority of larger companies that offer these lease deals are running for there own customers. What that lease operator is making in allot of cases has nothing to do with what the carrier is getting paid on the freight. The company is getting a higher rate on the freight then what they are paying the driver or owner operator because you know they are making there money.
