Thanks for the advice.
I've been stopping by the rest stop everyday on my way home from training in an attempt to talk to a few drivers, willing to talk.
It's kind of hard, as I will not go knock on a door, or interrupt a flat-bed securing his tarps, etc. I'm 36 y/o and know what it's like to be interrupted at work, so I've just hung out smoked a few cigs and wait till I see a driver doing the same.
Though they get a lot of crap, I talked to a Swift driver for about 10 minutes, he's been there 2 years and likes the company, said he's been driving for about 6 years. The fact that he didn't solicit his info to give to a recruiter, lead me believe he was being honest.
Other than the Swift driver, the only other drivers hanging around outside their trucks have been O/O and not much for conversation, a few said, "I'm not interested in buying anything" and walk away, haha, understandable I guess..
I'm taking a good look at Watkins and according to the recruiter, they are doing the same. I've only seen one truck on the road here in Southern Ca., so I don't see getting a chance to talk to a driver, other than on these forums.
Thanks for the reply, any advice is much appreciated.

I looked into watkins as well but it was funny the prehire i got thank you you have been accepted but we are sorry to inform you we do not hire from your region currently as we tend to hire within a 100 mile radius to a drop yard. lol how can i be accepted and not get hired because they don't hire from this area kinda contradicting.

they are saying that YOU meet the requirements to be hired by us, but you do not LIVE within our Hireing Area. Sry
Have you gone to school yet?
if not look into Millis Transfer
Also look into Epes im not sure if they hire from that area though.

where ever you end up, dont get scammed into leasing a truck!!!, PLEASE be smarter than that, while just learning the ropes, start by being a company driver, pending on what school you went to, you can learn alot, but most of the experience will come from your job, once you've got some good experience and you want to try the O/O side, go and by a truck from a dealer, not a lease from a company
RonPaul2012 Thanks this. -
How far away do you live? I believe I'm 108 miles and recruiter said it wasn't a problem..

You sound like my driving instructor, he's got a few trucks that are leased to a company (not leased from) and told me to just walk out of the room the minute my employer brings in the used car salesman....
I can't seem to understand why people fall for a truck rental (lease)... I mean, I don't mind having a lien holder on title with me, but if my name ain't on it, I'm not paying to fix it.....
Hey, Hertz just called and said the car I rented was due for an oil change and they want me to pay for it, they'll probably make me buy some tires
