Ok We needed a 34 and could do it close enough to intructor's house that he cold deal with some personal stuff. Cool by me he deserves it as hard as he has been working teaching me.

I am set up well at the Pilot he made sure I had shower credits and that the ATM worked.

We pulled in at 6am so I slept until 2pm and he left a note on the dash to call if I needed anything but now that I am awake I have a question. I've been checking the Reefer every 3 or 4 hours to make sure these pork butts are safe. I got the aircuffs on for when I step away. But it just Dawned on me that I have had the radio and the Dome lights on all night.

I know the APU does the air and the AC power but does it keep the DC side up to charge as well. I don't want him coming back to a dead battery.

when you are done laughing can you give me a straight answer. I'm thinking It'll be OK but I wanted to check and don't want to call him at this late hour.

Don't sweat it, the apu should keep the batteries charged as well. On some if not many of the the prime trucks, under the bunk the invertor will show the voltage that the apu is maintaining. Also many of the trucks will automatically shut off the interior lights when the voltage goes below a certain set point...... If your generator on the apu fails it should shut down and and throw a code on the controller........

Don't sweat it... the APU alternator charges the truck batteries. And you can always jump the truck from the reefer if you need to...

Just as a thought, I seem to remember some reefers (not for Prime, but another company) that had notices saying it would not support jumping a truck or charging batteries or something like that.

Maybe I'm thinking of something else? It's been over 18 months since I pulled a reefer.

Not on the Prime side. You'd better not call Road Assist and ask for someone to come out and jump you... unless the engine fell out of the bottom of the truck! Not with a working reefer engine and altenator; jumper cables are manditory equipment. That particular road service call is an expensive deduction from one's settlement.
