So I went to the DMV today and you have to retake everything. But I would be able to keep my motorcycle endorsement. That's a plus. Still trying to decide what to do. If I should just take a class here and be done with it or go thru Prime.
How do Illinois Residents transfer the CDL's?

You are going to an IL school where if you pass the tests you get your IL license, with all endorsements you also test for.
As a Prime student trainee....(going out with a trainer, in his/her truck)...you don't have to have a MO license....the MO license is what you get if you go to the Prime school.
See the difference:
1. IL school.....IL license.
2. Prime school....MO license.
That is for the school...not to be trainee on the truck! -
George and his cronies are not in business anymore.
Give it a few more years when another crook figures how to do it again. -
There's a couple of other differences Otter...
First, no school will give you the amount of hands-on behind the wheel experience that going through CDL instruction at Prime will, while getting a taste of what OTR life is.
The second is the $4,000 to $6,000 you spend on a driving school stays in your pocket, as long as you drive for just one year for Prime. But you'd want to be driving for some outfit for at least a year anyway, right? -
I don't disagree with you at all.....Otter can't find a way to disagree....better go back to bed!
The point I was trying to make was in response to his question about having to get one license from Prime (MO license) then having to test and pay again for the transfer to get his IL license.
He said he was in a CDL school in IL...so he will be testing for his IL license. He isn't going to Prime's school in MO, so no MO license will have to be transferred....his IL license will suffice for his time with the Prime trainer truck.
I knew that would get confusing...hell it was confusing me when I was trying to type it out!
acme65 Thanks this. -
Retesting shouldn't be an issue right? After all, he's supposed to have this stuff down pat being a "professional" truck driver...

That's the way I look at it...every 4 years when I have to go take the written to renew!
I think the fees are the big part...and to this I agree.
Swift has the same problem....they get their license in AZ, then have to go back to State of residence and pay to transfer (CA, NV, UT....wherever) -
Hello all I'm new to the board but however from the lovely state of Illinois also and yes we have some rather backwards ways of dealing with things when people are busted for selling licenses. I have gone to the dept that now over sees the cdl schools in ill and they stated the same thing out of state cdl holders have to retake all tests .... baseballcoach...where is this place that will rent a tractor and trailer in the Chicago area.

google "cdl today leasing illinois " . I know nothing about them other then they are a company that will drop off a truck at the testing site , give you a little time to get used to it then take you for the test.

I guess this is one more reason for hating Illinois.
I too am thinking about Prime.......Now more lost than ever
