Hello - New to this site. Looking for help / advice.
Worked for a manufacturing company as a salaried employee for 31 years. Was let go April 2010 for "nothing I did - just economics" This company has been doing this a lot for the past few years, since the economic crisis that started in 2008. I'm currently 58 years old. Don't have the money to retire - not having any luck finding a job - even entry level. Either I lack the 4 yr. degree or I'm overqualified. I see several job postings where a CDL is required. Most call for 3 yrs. experience - some not so much. I am seriously considering taking a course at West Michigan CDL. I'm told I can have a CDL in 3 weeks. Here's my question - Do you folks think I'll have any luck getting a driving job being 58 yrs old. I really think my age is playing a major part in my not being considered for other jobs. I don't know what to do. I'm living on savings. This won't last - I need an income.

Your age shouldn't hinder you with a CDL as you're not likely to be reckless and wild like some youngster; but you will have to go through the same bull that a newbie does, driving for some national company for little pay and being away from home often. Best wishes..
