1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

What are the best incentives a company can offer a driver to get him to want to work for that company? We're looking for drivers and want to offer them the most competitive pay, benefits and incentive bonuses? We are in So Minnesota. What do you all think?
    Just curious.

Well to be honest as far as my thinking goes, when I see the the statement in ad's and such "we offer competitive pay" etc.....to me that means they pay just as low as the next place. Offer superior pay and benefits, well maintained equipment, professionalism from the top of the food chain to the bottom. Lack of respect is a reason many drivers leave their jobs. Alot of places do safety and fuel and productivity bonuses, I never understood the safety bonus thing, I mean your not supposed to wreck equipment but if companies want to pay you more for that also...........cool

besides the obvious of health/dental/prescription coverage. Hometime would be the second most important thing, with a young family it is espically important to me. the last thing would have to be well manintained equiptment, which imo means either having an in house maintence shop or at the very least no questions asked when the truck has to be fixed. the only thing I requre of my current employer is that the truck be ready for me so that I can work and they know that and unless they don't have the part in the shop my truck is ready for me to roll out in.

PS. NO slip seating done it it sucks I have my own truck now and I HATE it when other people use my truck in fact my boss knows to give me a couple hours if somebody else has used my truck because its going to be cleaned inside and out before I go anywhere.

    Honesty, period. It's that simple.

Even if there are parts of the job that suck, be up front. If the truth is unpleasant, say it anyway. Sure, you might lose a few potential drivers...but they're the ones who'd leave anyway when they discovered they'd been lied to. The ones who come on anyway are the ones who'll stay.

Pay decent, treat your drivers with respect, and above all, be honest...and you won't have to worry about finding drivers once word gets out.

I'm a bit more mercinarial than others perhaps.

I want more than most any company will provide;fair pay for the work & sacrifice provided.

That's why I've decided not to do it anymore.

I can make more money, with less regulations, more respect, more at home time, with less chance of being hurt or killed & more importantly with less chance of hurting or killing someone else.

Naturally I'll miss the road, the truck, the places & new experiences but...as trucking companies treat their people like numbers; I've reduced companies to the numbers & found you all economically non-viable at this time.

    Best of luck to you.

Thanks, Roadkill, for reminding him that we do not allow recruiting... but also for allowing the question to remain since he was not outright recruiting (and hopefully will not do it through PM's). I think it's interesting to see what the responses will be... what attracts a person to a specific company and what motivates him/her to remain.

From what I read, there's a lot of discontent between drivers and trucking companies, and I think it's good that we permit this discussion. :yes2557:

I WOULD MOVE IN A MINUTE TO A COMPANY THAT COULD PROVIDE THOSE THINGS AND WOULD NEED TO RETIRE ME TO GET ME TO LEAVE. HALF TRUTHS -DECEPTION - ONLY WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW - THATS IS WHAT WE HAVE TO MUCH OF. LOYALTY - HONESTY - FRIENDSHIP - GOING THE EXTRA MILE IS SOME OF WHAT I WOULD BRING TO THE TABLE IN RETURN. HERE I GO DAY DREAMING AGAIN
