My wife and I want to move to Oregon from Kansas but I wasn't sure how hard it is to get a driving job in another state or if was even an issue? I would think since a cdl would just transfer there would be no issue but wasn't sure.

It's not hard at all. Try to find a company that hires in both states and then the transition goes alot smoother.
Unless you are going to move and then find a job?

There's alot of websites out there promoting trucking companies. On them websites it's easy to find a companies hiring area. Either that or look at the companies website. Drivers hire out of state everyday. You just have to be near their lanes.

I'd like to find a company there, apply and get hired on, then move there once I know I have the job, is that realistic? How long would they likely give me to get moved up there?

What are you looking for otr, regional? Flatbed, refer? You might want to check out System/TWT out of Spokane,WA. TWT is the refer side they run only CA,OR,WA &AR. System is the flatbed side they run all 48. I worked for both sides, they're a good company.

I moved from CA to OK & got a job. I think they gave me 30 days to transfer my license.

Were you able to secure the job before you moved? My thing is I have kids and don't want to just move there without knowing I have a job when we get there. I'm 25, never left the state, wanna move to Oregon and get on with an LTL, didn't know how much time they would likely give me to move there if hired or if companies will even hire an out of state applicant to drive there. Just lacking wisdom on how things work.

I flew out here and had a job lined up before i moved. I would recomend transfering your liscense as soon as you can, because you'll have to anyway even if you have a job lined up. But if you move there without a job it would probly be easier if you had a instate liscense, especially with local/ltl work. Do you have family there? I would recomend taking a short trip to the area you plan on moving to if possible. You may have a better chance secureing a local or ltl job if you are able to meet with managment in person rather than online. Just my 2 cents, i hope this helps, good luck to ya.
