You drove that nail. I got broke in right, in a sense. 1st OTR was TMC with their promise of 46/52 wkends home. I took that to mean 46/52 wkends Id be home for at least my 34hr. Ummm...nope. 8 months I might have had 8 34 hr wkends home. The rest of the time, my home time was a 10 hr break. When I asked them about it," it was the wkend and you were home werent you?" I know home time affects pay, Im willing to do 3 wks at a time, if its worth my time. All but 1 load that kept me out over the wkend were UNDER 600 miles. Load Friday deliver Tuesday, yeah there was some great load planning going on. 2nd job was pie though, elogs helped the matter but work 6 days and have a choice of either 34hr restart or a full 2days(48hrs). As far as a girl at home, if you have a good 1 hang on, if not youll be finding the next. I got married just before going OTR, wife knew all aspects just didnt realize them. So far we are still together, but its stressed things out. She begs me to find something else, but around here, jobs and pay suck, so Im staying in a truck til Im taken out. OTR aint what companies make out out to be, they dont care either. We are a dozen a bakers dozen, they know if a driver gets smart, they can find 5 more to take his place.

Where you live weighs heavy on hometime, most companies will tell you that much. But theres a lot more to it, mainly if your dispatcher knows where you live and how to read a map. You can see what I mean a few posts earlier. I live within an hr of 5 major interstates and was told Id have no trouble getting home. that didnt matter. And my dispatcher thought that I lived in the WHOLE state of Kentucky
I live near TN/VA line. 1st time I realized I didnt live in a certain city/town, I was in western KY, outta time heading for home. I called him up to see if I was out for the wkend or reschedule the apt time. His response, 'youre in KY arent you almost home?' If youve never noticed the is no straight shot from east to west south of Lexington.

That it is. wish Id got into it before I got hitched up. Id never came home and after a few yrs Id had a nice gold nest egg.... oh well. Thing is everybody has different situations, you just have to do whats best for your situation at the time in life. Not saying its not done, but most ppl look at the man being gone all the time from the girlfriend/wife and cheating, way I look at it shes at home alone with just as much thought and time to cheat as the man. It takes a lot of trust on both ends.

I cannot guarantee you anything, however, in 3 1/2 years, I have gotten home within 3 days of every requested hometime. On three critical hometimes (static date), I was there either on the day or the day before.
You must work with your DM to be there.
My home varies according to which child's house my wife is playing grandma at, so I float all over...Seattle, Portland, Boise, San Diego or North Carolina.
But I get there. -
How about home time in ny off 81

Doesn't matter where you live. If they hire you from that area, they'll get you home.
One day off for each week out. Home every 5-6 weeks.
